Down on the Farm: 5/9/2014

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies chewed up the El Paso Chihuahuas 8-1:

Tony Abreu(3B)- 1 for 3, HR(3), SF.  BA= .278.
Andrew Susac(Catcher)- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(3).  BA= .339.
Adam Duvall(1B)- 1 for 3, HR(11), BB.  BA=  .259.
Chris Dominguez(RF)- 2 for 4, SB(9).  BA= .286.
Chris Heston(RHP)-  6  IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 9/2.  ERA= 3.40.
Dan Runzler(LHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.79.

Duvall might not hit .220 in the majors, but I think he'd run into a few dingers.  Dominguez goes back to slap and dash.  Susac does not seem to be suffering from any lingering effects of his concussion.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels outlasted the Erie Seawolves 7-6 in 13 innings:

Matt Duffy(SS)- 3 for 4, 2B, 3 BB, 2 SB(8).  BA= .311.
Jarrett Parker(RF)- 2 for 6, HR(3), BB.  BA= .276.
Kelby Tomlinson(2B)- 3 for 6, 5 SB(13).  BA= .215.
Kyle Crick(RHP)- 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K.  ERA= 4.34.
Austin Fleet(RHP)- 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.12.

Matt Duffy is making a mockery of the EL's reputation as a graveyard for hitting prospects.  Squirrels stole a total of 8 bases with Tomlinson and Duffy getting 7 between them.

High A  Inland Empire 66'ers pounded the San Jose Giants 7-2:

Shawn Payne(DH)- 1 for 3, HR(1), BB.  BA= .294.
Chris Stratton(RHP)- 4 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 5.30.
Stephen Johnson(RHP)- 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 5.65.

Low A  Delmarva Shorebirds defeated the Augusta Greenjackets 6-4:

Christian Arroyo(2B)- 2 for 5, HR(1).  BA=  .207.
Ryder Jones(SS)- 3 for 4, BB.  BA=  .267.

Arroyo moves to the leadoff spot and responds.  Maybe the Giants thought he would see better pitches to hit up there?

  1. Went to the Little Giants game yesterday. 7-2 beating. Thankfully, the Beer Batter was the thing going down, as the poor dude struck out four straight times and got me 8 beers for the price of 4. The crowd sure was into it!

    Observations:

Stratton - has nothing to offer that I saw. Hitting 91-92, sitting 89-90. Yeah can throw offspeed too. But there was no electricity, no power and not much control to his game. Just kinda dull.

Soptik - As advertised. Wild, and not in a good way. Hitting 94-96.

Steve Johnson - Yeah the 6ish ERA looks bad. This guy has a funky delivery; twisted knee start into a semi-Lopez finish. Throwing 92-94. I like this guy if can he repeat/control the delivery, his ball gets on top of batters quickly.

Mizenko - Well it was a mop up job in the 9th, down 7-1 but, this guy has attitude down and stuff to match. Just don't know if he is big enough and was only sitting at 90ish.

The hitters all sucked. Only Galindo seemed to have that easy glide in CF and in his ABs that you can't teach.

Now if only the Big League club could add a Beer Batter promo.

  2. BTW OT: I wasn't sure about the Niners' first round pick, not that I disliked it, just wasn't sure. They hit it out of the park on Day 2 and the 4'th round looks darn good too!

    1. Ha, very cool that you're following the 9ers draft as well Dr.

I followed the draft more closely this year than ever before, and I really like what the brains pulled together. I think Ward was a great pickup and filled the big need at defensive back. Seems like they picked up some 1st round talent late in the draft as red shirts again this year, just like they did last year - which means we'll have Tank Carradine, Lattimore, as well as another guy I can't remember right now, in addition to the draft class of this year.

Loved the RB pickup in Hyde! OK, enough football from me. Go SF!
