Was this a bullpen game or is Jake Dunning being tried as a starter?

  1. Should the Giants be concerned about the pitching staff (every level) in the minors? None of them have looked good so far. Crick with huge command problems, I don't even see him as a reliever. Stratton was a bust from day one in my book. Blackburn the only one looking solid but looks more like a 3 or 4th starter.

  2. Simply put, no. Come guys, it's early in the season. Players are in new leagues and adjusting. We all just need to sit back and watch them progress throughout the year. That's the point of the Minors, right? Everyone was all excited about the pitching staff before the season and I think there's still room for optimism. Crick, not even as a reliever? Come on. What does that make him then?

    1. +1

It would be very nice if Crick could iron out the kinks, but those things don't happen overnight. There's still much to like as far as pitching goes. The only arms I'm truly concerned about are Stratton and Agosta. Stratton because he just doesn't seem to be the same pitcher the Giants drafted, and Agosta because he can't seem to stay healthy. I might actually throw Joan Gregorio in that boat as well. Arm fatigue after a month of games? Man...

However, I can still get very excited about guys like Crick, Escobar, Mejia, Blach, Blackburn, and Mella. Kendry Flores is just fine in my boat as well. And I'm sure a few other surprise names will pop up as the season progresses.

  3. I wonder about Dunning starting as well.

Are we reading more that there is because we perceive more out-performing relievers than starters (so far)?

    1. I read somewhere in spring training that the Giants coaches think Dunning has the arm and stuff to be a Petit type long man/spot starter, so the speculation is based on more than just this one start.
