For the second year in a row the Giants drafted a 2-way player in the first round but this time it was a HS player who scouts think is a hitter first compared to Reggie Crawford from 2022 who was coming out of college and most scouts think is a future pitcher.
Perhaps because they felt he already pitched enough last year between his HS season and showcased but Eldridge was limited to hitting in his first pro season and acquitted himself quite well. He showed impressive plate discipline at two levels while hitting for power. Well, not so much power in A San Jose but that is an aggressive placement for a HS draftee in their draft year and besides, it as a small sample.
Based on video clips, I am higher on Eldridge's pitching potential than most analysts seem to but but if he continues to hit like he did on 2023, he probably should not waste his time and take the injury risk.
I would think he starts 2023 back in San Jose but again if he continue to hit like last season he won't stay there long.
Don't like going off topic since Bryce Eldridge is one of their top prospects, but just happen to see a tweet by Susan Slusser that the Giants signed Jorge Soler to a 3 year contract. Gotta like it. Baggs wrote over the weekend that they might sign multiple Boros free agents. Good news after heartbreaking 49ers loss.
