Down on the Farm: 9/2/2019

AAA  Sacramento River Cats doubled the score on the El Paso Chihuahuas 8-4:

Jacob Heyward LF- 1 for 3, HR(1), BB.  BA= .400.
Ronnie Freeman C- 4 for 4, 3B.  BA= .295.
Ryan Howard 3B/SS- 1 for 4, HR(4).  BA= .235.
Zach Houchins 1B/3B- 2 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .500.
Tyler Cyr RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Williams Jerez LHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 3.86.
Melvin Adon RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 13.94.

Quite a few additions from AA Richmond.  The River Cats are in the PCL playoffs with the first round against A's affiliate Las Vegas.  The playoff roster will be quite different from the one that got them there due to September callups for players on the 40 man roster.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Bowie Baysox 7-1:

Bryce Johnson RF- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .243.
Jalen Miller 2B- 1 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .216.
Heliot Ramos CF- 2 for 4, HR(3), SB(2).  BA= .242.
Matt Winn 1B- 2 for 3, 2 2B, BB.  BA= .122.
Brandon Van Horn 3B- 1 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .185.
Jose Layer LF- 1 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .143.
Caleb Baragar LHP- 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.45.
Alfred Gutierrez RHP- 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K's, Save(1).  ERA= 4.09.

Heliot Ramos closes out his season on a triumphant note with a full stat line and a tape-measure HR. Very respectable showing for a 19 yo in a very tough environment for hitters.

A+  San Jose Giants pounded the Stockton Ports 7-1:

Diego Rincones DH- 1 for 5, HR(2).  BA= .247.
David Villar 3B- 2 for 3, BB.  BA= .262.
Courtney Hawkins CF- 1 for 4, HR(21).  BA= .256.
Heath Quinn RF- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(5).  BA= .289.
Manuel Geraldo SS- 3 for 4, 3B.  BA= .255.
Tristan Beck RHP- 7 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 2.27.

Tristan Beck continues to impress since coming to the Giants organization from the Braves in the Melancon trade. Oh, and I think this means the Giants make the Cal League playoffs.

A  Augusta Greenjackets outscored the Columbia Fireflies 6-5:

Jacob Gonzalez 1B- 3 for 4, HR(10).  BA= .241.

4 multi-hit games out of his last 6 for Jacob.  I believe the GJ's are in the SAL playoffs.

Short Season  Eugene Emeralds topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 6-1:

Jairo Pomares RF- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .207.
Nick Avila RHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

I believe the Volcanoes are in the NWL playoffs by virtue of winning the first half of their division. Again, a much different team now.

  1. In addition to Tristan Beck, the Giants received 29 yo RHP Dan Winkler from the the Braves who has pitched well for Sacramento in 12 appearances (better than he did in the Braves system).
    He also has not bad MLB numbers: 100 IP, 11 HR, 39 W, 115 K, BAA .214, WHIP 1.18

  2. The AZL Giants Orange also made the playoffs. I can't recall a time when so many of the minor league affiliates made the post season. Of course, individual minor league team success does not directly project major league success for prospects, but it is definitely an encouraging sign that the prospects acquired from recent drafts and trades are playing well and moving up the ladder while experiencing winning. The Giants farm system, which has recently been ranked as a bottom 3 system has been moved up to #15 by Fangraphs. And as the flood of talent in the low minors works its way up that ranking only figures to improve. Things are suddenly not as bleak as they were even a year ago.
