The Giants jumped all over Rangers starter Nick Tepesch to build a 7-0 lead after 2 innings then coasted to an easy win while giving some of the minor league prospects a chance to shine. Key Lines:
Angel Pagan(CF)- 1 for 3. BA= .250. Great to see Pagan apparently healthy and playing. Don't care about spring stat lines.
Gary Brown(CF)- 1 for 2, HR(1). BA= .250. Brownie put a charge into one that cleared the Giants bullpen behind the LF fence. He looks to me like he might have added some muscle over the winter.
Travis Ishikawa(1B)- 3 for 4, 3B. BA= .500. Is Travis Ishikawa on a mission or what? This is starting to feel like another Ryan Vogelsong type story if it wasn't one already.
Brandon Crawford(DH)- 1 for 4, 3B. BA= .143. The Triples Man does it again. Crawford's shoulder is reportedly feeling better and he is expected to return to playing in the field next week.
Matt Duffy(SS)- 1 for 2, HR(1), BB. BA= .333. Matt Duffy! Looks like he has added some muscle to that frame and what a frame! Very impressive leverage on his swings. I think there may be some serious power in there!
Juan Perez(RF)- 2 for 3, SB(1). BA= .286. You sure get the feeling that the bubble guys are getting after it, huh?
Jarrett Parker(RF)- 1 for 2, 2B. BA= .429. Parker's double hit just about 6 inches below the top of the CF wall.
Ehire Adrianza(2B)- 0 for 2, 2 BB. BA= .167. Adrianza is just 1 for 6 in the early spring, but has 3 BB's to go with it for a .444 OBP.
Yusmeiro Petit- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00. Petit is the first Giants pitcher to get a start who seemed to be in command. Said he wasn't throwing full speed but was concentrating on command of his pitches. Petit said he watched video of his postseason appearances with family several times over the winter. Good for him! No point in doing it if you can't enjoy it.
Adalberto Mejia- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00. This is now 3 very impressive innings for Mejia. Alex P of CSN Bay Area reports he was sitting at an easy 91-93 MPH. Maybe this will be his breakout year after he serves the 50 gamer?
Kyle Crick- 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00. Nobody in the organization needed this kind of outing as much as Cricky. He threw just 24 pitches in his first 2 innings. Gotta be a big shot in the arm for the kid's confidence.
Steven Okert- 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00. Okert gave up 2 runs but they were unearned. No word on what his stuff looked like.
Joan Gregorio- 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00. Gregorio blew a FB by Joey Gallo for the K.
Clayton Blackburn, Nik Turley and Ray Black were sent to minor league camp. Black is nursing an oblique strain. Blackburn has a sore shoulder but tests reportedly showed no structural damage.

Big game for Crick he needed that outing.
ReplyDeleteI think Brown finally takes a step forward. He said the instructors moved his hands back, and got him out of his crouch more upright. He said he sees the ball better. He only had one bad year at the plate. He tore it up in SJ.He hit .279 in AA.And .230 and .270 in AAA.The CS is an easy fix.He doesn't get the green light unless we give it to him.The strikeouts are on him. That's just 2 strike approach.I think he finally understands what adjustments he needs to make.To help contribute to his team.He has the tools. If he cuts down the strike outs.We have an everyday OF.Duffy's putting a choke hold on the UTI IF spot.Carbonell continues to impress.Crick had a nice start.Arroyo should be in SJ.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see Brownie get a chance too, but time is starting to run out on him a bit and guy who are ahead of him on the depth chart are having good springs too. The numbers game works against Duffy, especially since he has an option, so I expect we'll see him in Sacramento.
