David Thompson plays 3B for Univ. of Miami who is starting to get some notice as a budding power hitter. He's got great size at 6'2", 225 lbs, B-R, T-R. He got off to a great start to his college career in 2013 hitting .286 with 6 HR's in his freshman campaign. He was hampered by Thoracic Outlet Syndrome in 2014 which required mid-season surgery, but has come roaring back in 2015. He made headlines last night with a 2 HR game to give him 8 on the season so far. His full batting line:
.375/.477/.750, 8 HR, 16 BB, 7 K in 88 AB.
He is the kind of college hitter the Giants like to draft in rounds 2-10.

I was very close to making him the Giants round 2 pick in my last mock draft, but went with a pitcher instead. At this point, he's got to be a top 10 draft hitting prospect in all of college ball. I'm thinking he's put himself squarely in top 30 consideration.
ReplyDeleteHe sounds like an interesting power hitting prospect that the Giants have drafted in the past, such as Mac Williamson, Chris Dominquez, Brandon Belt, etc.. I read an article saying that he has the raw power, bat speed for his bat to play at the next level.. To his credit, he's off to a great start this season coming back from surgery, and teams wanted to see him play fully healthy.. A question that teams will need to project is will he stay at 3rd base or move to 1st base in professional baseball..
