Spring Training Game Wrap 3/13/2015: Rangers 3 Giants 0

Jake Peavy gave up a 3 run blast to uber power prospect Joey Gallo in the 3'rd inning to account for the only scoring in the game.  The Giants offense mustered 6 scattered hits from 6 different batters.  Key Lines:

2B:  Joe Panik(2), Matt Duffy(3).

3B:  Brandon Belt(1).

Jake Peavy(RHP)- 4 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 7.71.  Pretty good outing except for the 2 out bomb by Gallo.  We'll chalk it up to the environment.

Cody Hall(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 4.50.  Always nice to see the kids do well.

Javier Lopez(LHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 5.40.  Much better than his first appearance.

Ty Blach(LHP)- 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 12.86.  That's more like it.  We'll chalk up the first two appearances to rookie nerves.

Split squad tomorrow with Matt Cain facing the A's in the afternoon and Ryan Vogelsong facing the D'backs in the evening.

  1. Peavy hit 2 Rangers -- that should have loosened them up but Gallo's 2-out jack was the game. A better outing, Peavy may be on track, getting ready.
Tomorrow we get to see Cain -- progressing.
Aoki got a hit. Aoki got a hit. Aoki got a hit.
Not quite Giants win the pennant....
We can all hope the pitching is ready to go April 6th, so we can win with 4 runs, lose with 2, and flip a coin with 3.
This might be a great season, if you like "torture"!

  2. From Pavlovic at CSN:

"PLAY OF THE DAY: Mac Williamson made a slick diving stop in right and popped right up after his glove hand got caught under his body. Williamson has looked like his old self while returning from Tommy John surgery, and it looks like he’ll be ready for Double-A."

"Bochy said Adam Duvall may play a game in the outfield soon; Duvall, a third baseman, has been taking fly balls …"

    1. Duvall...outfielder..versatility. Left field, right filed or both?

That's what we do in spring training...working on new ideas, experimenting, taking fly balls, hitting the cut off man, etc.

    2. The article didn't say, but RF at AT&T is harder than LF. So I'd guess LF.

    3. Duval: 447 MiL games
      Games in OF: 0
He could pretend he's playing a deep 3B.
      Very deep.
