Well, THAT is a bit more like it! Yeah, it was the D'Backs and they did not bring their A lineup to the game, but you have to start somewhere. The Giants had a pretty good game both at the plate and on the mound as well as on D to blank the D'Backs in Scottsdale. Key Lines:
Gregor Blanco(LF)- 1 for 3. BA= .316. Blanco just keeps going and when was the last time Pagan played?
Matt Duffy(SS)- 1 for 1, 3B. BA= .375. Man! Even I am starting to wonder if Matt Duffy just might force a late spring trade to make room for him on the roster?
Casey "Hits" McGehee(3B)- 1 for 2. BA= .500. Stay hot, McGehee!
Gary Brown(CF)- 0 for 3, 2 Assists(home, 2B). BA= .174. Odd game for Brown, but he's always had a great throwing game from the OF, so I guess it's just him playing his game. Gotta hit better, though. And where is Angel Pagan in all this?
Juan Perez(RF)- 2 for 3, 2B. BA= .286. Lil Juan P just keeps doing good things too.
Mac Williamson(RF)- 1 for 1, 3B. BA= .308. This is great to see from Mac. Probably about time to head down to minor league camp and get more PA's.
Ehire Adrianza(2B-3B)- 2 for 4. BA= .273. The move to 3B did not happen until the 9'th inning so it probably does not mean anything.
Tim Hudson(RHP)- 1.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00. Huddy had a clean first inning, but ran into trouble in the second and had to be bailed out by Partch.
Curtis Partch(RHP)- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 5.06. I think Partch's last outing was pretty good too. He might be earning himself a AAA gig if he wants that.
Yusmeiro Petit(RHP)- 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 5.40. This is what the Giants hired him to do.
Cody Hall, Javier Lopez and Jean Machi all worked scoreless frames.
The Giants travel to Goodyear tomorrow to take on the Reds with Chris Stratton listed as the starting pitcher. Kyle Crick is also slated to see action and Sergio Romo's first spring appearance was pushed back from today to tomorrow.

Pagan not playing much, Romo pushed back, Timmy hurting, I think the Giants are going to have some players on the DL when the season starts. Duffy and Ehire are going to force something to happen too. If I was Arias, I might not get to comfortable. I think the Giants could trade him even with his contract. Also interesting to see the Giants admit they offered Shields a 5 year $90 million contract right after they lost out to Lester. I know they signed Peavy and Vogelsong but I still don't think they feel comfortable about their rotation especially with Timmy banged up.
ReplyDeleteI think there are some moves yet to be made by the start of the season. Stay tuned.

I went looking because I was curious, and Pagan had 4 AB in the split squad against AZ last night. The guy I'm wondering about is Susac, who hasn't played since Wednesday (1 AB). I tweeted a couple of the beat guys today, with no response. And nothing has been mentioned in any of the recaps that I've noticed. I would REALLY like to see him make the team, but you can't win the battle when you aren't on the field. Gotta get healthy.
ReplyDeleteI believe Susac has some type of foot injury or something like that. I saw a note on it a few days ago. Nothing that sounds too serious, but enough to keep him out of games for a few days.
DeleteFrom today's CSN Bay Area - dealing with impingement in his right wrist. Will test today and should see action soon.
DeleteDuffy......
ReplyDeleteZach Wheeler to get TJ surgery. For those who don't remember, the Giants had him change his wind up when they had him because they were concerned about an injury long term. He goes to the Mets and they let him go back to his old one, he puts up good numbers but now at this cost. Just goes to show again the Giants know what they are doing when it comes to pitching.

Sorry to hear that.
DeleteHope he recovers soon and comes back strong or stronger.
The Giants do know what they are doing when it comes to pitching (and hitting as well) and perhaps they were prescient, but how does one go about showing if the injury would not have occurred otherwise.
Last year Matt Harvey, and so far this year Wheeler and Josh Edgin. Do the Mets have bad luck? Has the ghost of Jimmy Hoffa, who's rumored to have been buried in old Yankee Stadium, placed a crosstown curse on Citifield? Is someone careless or ignorant about pitchers among the Mets coaching staff? So far the Giants have done very well in regard to such pitcher injuries, on the big-league level. (Well, Brian Wilson. But it's hard for me to imagine him actually paying attention to anyone but himself when it comes to his pitching arm, so maybe he shouldn't count.)
DeleteI would say that it's mostly bad luck. It seems like it's an industry wide problem that teams continue to evaluate how they should handle their pitchers to prevent an elbow injury. There are many theories out there as to cause, but my feeling is pitchers who throw in the low to mid 90's are like a dime a dozen now. I remember a time where pitching staffs on the average had 2 maybe 3 of these type of pitchers. There must be some validity that the increase in hard throwers has led to more elbow injuries.

Comment made on Giants telecast yesterday by Krukow (might have been Miller, Kuiper ?): According to Bochy, Aoki has played RF for the last time .....
ReplyDeleteI doubt that to some extent, particularly with an article posted to SFGiants.com yesterday implying that Bochy sees Aoki as a fine option for RF. However, when you look at the Giant's other options - Pence, Blanco, Perez - Each one has at least one feature which profiles stronger in RF.
DeleteBlanco and Perez are simply first rate defenders based on speed & rout running. Add in the arm that both Perez and Pence possess (Blanco is no slouch, accuracy taken into account), and really there's just no reason to play Aoki out there except in a pinch. It's not Aoki so much as it is the glut of strong defenders that the Giants have stabled.
Aoki, leading off and playing RIGHT FIELD today, walked!
DeleteSo much for that reporting......
Bochy did say that Aoki was going to play exclusively LF in AT&T Park because RF is so unique and Blanco and Perez have experience out there.
DeleteBut, don't think he likes to shuffle players around.
