The Giants lost a game in the 9'th inning for the second day in a row. The pitching was pretty good. The bats, not so much. Key Lines:
Nori Aoki(DH)- 2 for 5, 3B. BA= .154. The triple looked a bit windblown, and it wasn't Mike Trout playing CF.
Hector Sanchez(Catcher)- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .258. I think it's fairly safe to say by now, barring injury, Hector Sanchez is going to be on the Opening Day roster as the reserve catcher.
Tim Lincecum(RHP)- 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 0 K. ERA= 7.88. Timmy looked much better today after a layoff for a stiff neck. No K's but he retired 11 of the final 12 batters he faced.
Yusmeiro Petit(RHP)- 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 5.19.
Jean Machi and Santiago Casilla pitched a scoreless inning apiece.
Angel Pagan particpated in the workout today. Baggs is still taking veiled shots over at Extra Baggs or whatever it's called now.
Split squad game tomorrow with Chris Heston and Madison Bumgarner drawing the starting assignments. No, neither Brandon Belt nor Matt Duffy are starting in the OF.
Around the League:
Turns out Zack Wheeler's medicals were so bad going into the offseason, the Mets considered him untradeable simply because they assumed any trade would be voided after the receiving team saw them.

I liked that Timmy pitched 4 innings and was able to get his work in and he did good work although having 0 strikeouts. But I won't take away too much more from it since the Halos lineup was full of reserves.. Petit, Machi, and Casilla looked good.. I think Petit will be an important pitcher in the early going getting a lot of work in the early going as a setup man coming in the 5th or 6th innings. If Hector can stay healthy, then their catching depth should be ok.. A little disappointed that there weren't too many hard hit balls by the Giants, but the reserves were facing Jerrod Weaver..

Lincecum's hard work in the off season looks to be paying off.He looks like he added around 10 lbs.Should get a solid season out of Lincecum.
ReplyDeleteDoc, what are you referring to with Baggs? I seem to have missed something.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, maybe I'm being a bit sensitive to it, but I thought Baggs tweet, "Looks like Pagan is going to try to some baseball activities today" came across with a faint hint of sarcasm.
DeleteMaybe cynicism would be a better word than sarcasm?
DeleteThis and Sunday's games kinda says Giants need more than 2 runs to win.
ReplyDeleteYa think?
That is generally the case for any team.
DeleteUsually don't pay attention to Spring records, but I'm bracing myself for a slow start from the team. That's ok. Who knows what the mindset of the players are after 3 WS in 5 years.

I believe the single best indicator of spring training in general is how the pitching shapes up as the regular season approaches. The pitching has been much better over the past week, which I find encouraging.
DeleteI think Baggs has an axe to grind with Pagan. Rumor has it he is the one who started the freeze on Baggs last year.
ReplyDeleteBaggs reported that there were some in the Giants organization who were growing frustrated by Pagan's lack of progress in rehabbing his back. I don't know if it was other players or Pagan who orchestrated the boycott, but yeah, a lot of players on the team started refusing to talk to any media if Baggs was in the room. Probably cost Baggs his job with CSN Bay Area which is too bad, IMO. On the other hand, I can see why the players might have thought it was a cheap shot on Baggs part. I mean, if you are Pagan, how do you rebut something like that when you have no idea what people in the organization Baggs is talking about? I mean, it could be anybody from Larry Baer and Brian Sabean on down to the clubhouse janitor or Lou Seal!
