When I looked ahead at the projected starting pitchers for this series I said to myself, "oh no! This might not go well." Those fears were realized as Nate Eovaldi, a serious pitcher when he's healthy, outpitched Justin Verlander for 6 innings and the Giants lineup could not break through against the Rangers bullpen. Key Lines:
Justin Verlander RHP- 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 4.99. A Quality Start for Verlander which is what you hope to get from him at this point in his career. That's going to be enough to win most games but not tonight.
Randy Rodriguez RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 0.00. This was Rodriguez' first appearance since 4/18 in Anaheim and just his second since 4/15 in Philly. Is he, like Hayden Birdsong RHP, an underutilized talent?
Ryan Walker RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 6.52. Non-save situation and a clean inning. Buster says the Giants still have confidence in him as the Closer.
Nate Eovaldi RHP- 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 2.21. Justin Verlander pitched well but Eovaldi pitched better. Eovaldi has pitched over 150 innings just 4 times in his 14 year career, but he's been over 100 IP with a sub-4.00 ERA his last 4 seasons. He came into this game with a 2.64 ERA on the season so you knew it was going to be tough to score on him which proved to be true.
The Loss dropped the Giants record to 17-10 on the season. They still have a winning record of 8-7 with two games to go in the 17 day stretch of consecutive games including a very challenging 10 game road trip.
You don't want to lose games. However, any loss to a Bochy led team is very tempered.
ReplyDeletelove baseball and accept losing as an integral part of the game but shutouts, i lose sleep over them. the Giants have 10 losses and isn't that their 4th shutout loss? -es
ReplyDeleteIt's their third 2-0 loss(Reds 4/7; Angels 4/18) and they lost to the Reds 1-0(4/8).
