AAA: Las Vegas Aviators downed the Sacramento River Cats 6-4:
Brett Wisely 2B- 1 for 4, HR(1), BB. BA= .280.
Hunter Bishop RF- 1 for 4, HR(1). BA= .192.
Kyle Harrison LHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K's, 69 Pitches. ERA= 1.13.
Helcris Olivares LHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00.
Nick Kurtz 1B(Aviators)- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .462.
No offense to Christian Koss who absolutely deserved his promotion to the major leagues but after the spring Brett Wisely had it must be tough to find himself back in AAA. So far, he's been the River Cats best position player. Kyle Harrison has 11 K's and 4 BB in 8 IP over his first two games. Nick Kurtz was the 4'th overall draft pick for the A's in 2024. He appears to be too good for AAA.
AA: Akron Rubber Ducks outscored the Richmond Flying Squirrels 7-4.
Carter Howell CF- 1 for 2, 2 BB, SB(1). BA= .500.
Jairo Pomares DH- 2 for 3, BB. BA= .667.
Travis Bazzana 2B(Rubber Ducks)- 2 for 3, 2 BB, 2 SB(2). BA= .667.
Carter Howell had a solid season for the Squirrels last year and is someone I thought should move up to AAA this season. Travis Bazzana was the #1 overall draft pick for the Guardians in 2024.
A+: Eugene Emeralds beat the Hillsboro Hops 8-4:
Quinn McDaniel 2B- 1 for 3, SF, HBP. BA= .333.
James Tibbs III- 2 for 2, 3 BB. BA= 1.000.
Charlie Szykowny 3B- 2 for 3, 2 BB. BA= .667.
Jonah Cox LF- 3 for 5, 2 2B. BA= .600.
Travis Vogel RHP- 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Here's a bold prediction: James Tibbs III will be in AA Richmond by midseason.
A: Modesto Nuts topped the San Jose Giants 6-3:
Robert Hipwell 3B- 0 for 2, 2 BB. BA= .000.
Jose Ortiz RF- 2 for 4. BA= .500.
Drew Cavanaugh C- 1 for 3, HR(1), BB. BA= .333.
Drake George RHP- 3 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Drake George was the Giants 13'th round draft pick in 2024. This was his first pro appearance.
LOL, Modesto's Nuts topped SJ's Giants.
ReplyDeleteYou like that one?
Deletesure, still chuckling...
DeleteThe Modesto Nuts are fun to write about. There are other double-entendres: Cracked the Nuts, crushed the Nuts.....etc.
Delete....or maybe triple entendres?
Delete2024's draft pick just after James Tibbs III, Cam Smith was 1-6 against the Giants in Houston, and 2-14 overall with 6 Ks and 3 Ws.
ReplyDeleteFansided has an interesting commentary on Smith ("Cam Smith's slow start is teaching the Astros a lesson they should've already learned") @ https://fansided.com/cam-smith-s-slow-start-is-teaching-the-astros-a-lesson-they-should-ve-already-learned-01jqvk60sw1n
Cam Smith had a great start to is pro career last season and a great spring. Someone posed the question here if the Giants should have taken Smith instead of Tibbs III. The answer is way too early to know. There is something to be said for taking a slower approach to player development and making them prove they can handle AAA and AAA in a large enough sample size. On the other hand, Smith's slow start may be nothing more than early season sample size noise.
DeleteIts way too early to pass judgement on anyone from last year's draft. Both Smith and Tibbs are young. I'm not sure what the Astros' situation is but it looks like they are thin in the outfield and Smith is playing out of position in RF when he is normally a 3B. When USA Today published their pre-draft roundup last year, they had Tibbs going at #10 and Smith at #14 so I don't think the Giants front office did anything outrageously wrong. Tibbs had more power at FSU and was all-American and ACC player of the year. Chicago fans are also wondering about Cam Smith after the Cubs traded him for Tucker. The consensus is that Smith is going to be a good player but Tucker was the best player in the deal and has the potential to be a difference maker in 2025. Smith going from AA last season to the big club this season seems a little aggressive, no matter how good his spring training was.
DeleteDoc, you posted the Giants commentary @ 9:02 PM last night and Down on the Farm @ 3:41 AM this morning.
ReplyDeleteWhen do you sleep?
Ha ha! I slept from about 11:00 PM to 3:00 PA. I've battled early awakening insomnia variant most of my life. I've found that when I wake up if I get up, take a small dose of melatonin and sit up for about 30-40 min I can then get back to sleep. So I'll write a blog post or play a game of chess online. I got back to sleep at about 3:45 this AM and just now woke up so overall I slept pretty good.
Delete....now that I'm retired if I don't get enough sleep at night I can supplement it with a 30-40 min power nap in the daytime.
DeleteSicilian defense at 3AM. Impressive.
DeleteKrukow always says that players who get sent down to AAA come back with a chip on their shoulder. Wisely is playing with the chip. If he comes back, then it seems like Schmitt is the on the bubble.
ReplyDeleteOr Koss
DeleteKoss is better suited to be the 26th man more than some of the other players who would need more regular playing time to hone their skills. He can sit, be ready when needed, and play good defense. The 26th man is not necessarily the first one to be considered to be sent down because some players handle bench time better than others. The one that gets sent down might the the one whose skills need developing or getting too much rust by sitting on the bench.
DeleteKoss is still the best defensive SS of all the potential infield reserves.
