The Giants were gamers as they battled the Yankees in a steady rain in 45 degree temperatures and a 9 MPH wind blowing in from CF and came away with a runaway win. Key Lines:
Mike Yastrzemski RF- 1 for 3, 2B, BB, 2 R, RBI. BA= .343. Bob Melvin moved YtY to the leadoff spot and he led off the game with a ringing double up the R-CF alley. He also appeared to bang his left elbow against the wall trying to catch a drive by Austin Wells that bounced off the top of the wall and back into the field of play. He stretched the arm several times and made throwing motions while holding his glove. He appeared to be fine after that. Hopefully it's just a minor bruise as Yaz has been a big part of the Giants early season success.
Jung Hoo Lee CF- 1 for 2, HR(1), 2 BB, 2 R, 3 RBI. BA= .340. After Willy Adames SS walked, Lee hit a 3-run HR to get the Giants on the scoreboard first never to look back. He also did a nice job tracking down windblown flyballs in CF in very treacherous field conditions.
Lamonte Wade Jr 1B- 1 for 2, 2B, 2 BB, R, 3 RBI. BA= .125. Moved down to 6'th in the batting order, LMWJ responded with 2-run double to RF and a bases loaded walk to drive in a third run.
Tyler Fitzgerald 2B- 2 for 3, SB(4). BA= .257. He didn't figure in the scoring but an encouraging game for Fitz who has been scuffling.
Robbie Ray LHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 7 Ks, 98 P. ERA= 2.93. Hats off to Ray for pitching well in terrible conditions. He deservedly gets credit for the W despite going less than 5 inning due to the shortened game.
Spencer Bivens RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 5.79. And hats off to Bivens who had to pitch in a driving rain and struck out Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Bellinger and got Aaron Judge on a weak flyout to Jung Hoo Lee.
The Giants record improves to 10-3.
Jordan Hicks RHP tries to clinch a series win tomorrow afternoon facing Will Warren RHP.
I have never seen an mlb game played under such a hard consistent rain. I guess they really wanted to get the game in. Great to see the Giants hit the ball so well, especially in the rain. Marcus Stroman was obviosly struggling and did not make it out of the 1st inning. I believe the Giants were looking at him as a free agent before the 2024 season. Glad they didn't sign him. Yankees have him thru 2026 at6 $18.5 M.
ReplyDeleteI was dyin' in the bottom of the 5th. LOL "C'mon Spencer! Just throw strikes! Get us through the inning...make it official!"
DeleteHappy to get this in. Seems like they could have called it earlier.
It was celebration time with the 3rd out!
DeleteImagine wiping this game out in the 5th and having a double header Saturday to kick off 17 games in 16 days on the road!
Poor umpires! They don't get to dry off! They were all soaked in the 6th.
What's with stats for the 6th: don't they have to complete an inning to count? Or the top half if the home team is ahead? If a team goes ahead in the top of an inning after 5 son't they revert? Or have to play it off later?
As Doc said, gotta give Robbie Ray major Kudos for pitching through that stuff...You can see how uncomfortable he was with the mound, the grip, the calls but like a pro he just slogged through it..for almst 100 pitched aand not the worse for wear for it....When he realy finds it this year, he's gonna be huge (health permitting).....LEE is getting a lot of props in the national media lately and you can see why..He does everything well...And where would this team be, at least now, without Yaz and WIlmer?...Bseball can be a funny game.
ReplyDeleteAll that said, two tough games coming up...Hicks needs to have control today..
