Well, that's not how they drew it up. Blake Snell was wild high with the FB and paid the price while the Giants lineup continued to struggle to score runs. Key Lines:
Jung Hoo Lee CF- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .238. Things looked promising when Lee singled to lead off the Giants half of the first inning and scored on Lamonte Wade Jr's double but that would be the last run they scored in the game despite Lee reaching base 3 times.
Lamonte Wade Jr LF- 2 for 3, 2 2B. BA= .333. LMWJ continues to confound the doubters. He didn't get help behind him in the lineup.
Blake Snell LHP- 3 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 9.00. Lack of FB command was the key here as Snell was wild high all evening, which only lasted 3 innings. Snell has always walked a lot of batters so we'll see, but I expect him to be better next start. This was the equivalent of a 2'nd or 3'rd preseason start.
Kai-Wei Teng RHP- 3.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 K, GO/AO= 4/1. ERA= 7.11. Teng's performance was better than the line. He pitched 3 shutout ininngs before running into trouble in the 9'th when his pitch count probably got too high. He threw 61 pitches in all. I would count him as a bright spot in the game.
The Loss drops the Giants to 4-7 tied for 3'rd place in the NL West with the D'Backs, 4 games behind the Dodgers and 1 behind the Padres.
Teng looked good..hopefully we see more of him... Learning experience for ROUPP...Teams will be waiting for that curve ball now..He will need to adapt and needs to be better with his location.....SNELL..well..just spring training for him now...
ReplyDeleteThe less said about the lame lineup, the better...Looked like a bunch of minor leaguers vs, of all teams, the Nats.

I wonder how long they will allow Bailey to play hurt with his defense ailing a bit. Sabol is capable if Bailey needs an IL stint for his hand.
ReplyDeleteWas Bailey overrated? 2 errors in 8 games, 9 K's in 29 PAs.
ReplyDeleteWas Bart NOT FZ's man and Bailey WAS?
I think Bailey's hot start last year was so blindingly bright FZ et al missed some red flags in his subsequent performance. I think Bart's poor prior performances made them gunshy about relying on him again. I hope both Bailey and Bart have long successful careers but I think it's possible the Giants may come to realize letting Bart go was a mistake. And there were ways they could have kept him.
DeleteHunter Bishop made his 2024 AA debut April 5th & 6th:
ReplyDelete3-9, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 W
After sitting out 2023, in his 6th year since signing June 29, 2019, he did about as much as could be hoped for in 2 games, 10 PA's.
Is this a new beginning? Is there hope he can stay healthy? And can he hit?
The Giants fairly obviously want YtY to "play out of it" with some confidence he will.
ReplyDeleteHis end-of-season last year (29 games) after returning from injury was good, about as much as you can expect from your everyday RFer:
.234/.375/.468/.843 when the rest of the team had pretty much fallen apart (10-19).
His 2024 is really off, so the question is: will he or won't he "play out of it"?
Given the lack of a LHB replacement from Sacramento, the Giants will probably tough it out and hope for the best along with the rest of us.
What's going on now was determined in November 2018 when Farhan Zaidi was hired and it was decided NOT to blow up the team that had gone 137-187 in 2017 & 2018, finishing collectively 58.5 games out of 1st place.
ReplyDelete5 years of cut-and-pasting has produced a .500 team plus the 2021 aberration.
The question: is the 2024 team better than the 2017-2018 team(s) and is the system better than it was at the end of 2018?
If you answer "No" you don't like Zaidi.
If you think the Giants should have "kept up with LA" by spending gigatonnes, then you don't like Johnson.
If you think the future is good, on the team and in the system, you need to say Farhan has done a good job given his mandate.
My answer to the first question is the current team and system are better than 2017 and 2018 but not dramatically better. Q2: No I don't think the GIants should try to outspend the Dodgers. Q3: I think the future is cautiously hopeful, but can't say for sure good. So I guess it's a mixed bag for me.
DeleteGood questions. Current team and system is better. Very early but fun to predict this team will be dramatically better then 2018. . Pitching and defense teams should win at Oracle. A rotation Webb, Harrison, Hicks, Snell has a chance to be top 10 in MLB and could add Cobb and Robbie Ray later .This doesn't mean I like FZ .He's been ok overall. No Giants should not try to outspend the Dodgers. I'm cautiously optimistic about the future also. They seem to be trying to win with veterans and developing their young players at the same time, not easy to do. I'm encouraged that the owners actually went over the tax line with Payroll. At least they're trying to win. Big market teams gotta be willing to spend in current environment. But if Marco Luciano can realize his potential as a player, that will be huge news for future Giants teams.
