Down on the Farm: 4/10/2024

AAA:  Sacramento River Cats defeated the El Paso Chihuahuas 7-3:

Heliot Ramos RF- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(4), BB.  BA= .325.
Trenton Brooks DH- 1 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .194.
Sean Hjelle RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Juan Sanchez LHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K's.  ERA= 1.42.

If FZ is truly remorseful about not giving Heliot more of shot last season, he is likely to have an opportunity to make that right at some point this season.

AA:  Akron Rubber Ducks topped the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-3:

Grant McCray CF- 1 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .071.
Victor Bericoto 1B- 3 for 5, HR(1).  BA= .318.
Hunter Bishop LF- 3 for 5, SB(1).  BA= ..333.
John Bertrand LHP- 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 2.70.
Nick Garcia RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 3.00.

Victor Bericoto has toonder in his bat.  Wouldn't it be wild if Hunter Bishop had a huge breakout year worthy of a former high first round draft pick and made and impact at the MLB level?  We can dream, right?

A+:  Eugene Emeralds pounded the Everett Aquasox 7-2:

Matt Higgins 1B- 2 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .583.
Andrew Kachel LF- 3 for 4, BB.  BA= .300.
Justin Bench RF- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .250.
Dylan Cumming RHP- 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 1.13.
Nick Sinacola RHP- 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.50.

A:  Visalia Rawhide whipped the San Jose Giants 8-3:

Bryce Eldridge 1B- 1 for 1, 2B.  BA= .278.
Dylan Carmouche LHP- 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 6.00.

Eldridge doubled in the first inning but was lifted for a PH in the second inning.  Injury?

  1. It doesn't appear that 22 yo Victor Bericoto has filled in yet: he's listed as 6'1" and 155 lbs.
There's a recent picture and interesting writeup @

    1. I've seen Bericoto in person. Pretty sure he weighs more than 155 lbs.

    2. Although he looks leaner in those videos than I remember from San Bernardino in 2022.

    3. 155 would be really thin @ 6'1" — I would be thin @ 165 and I'm not even 5'11" — anymore :<(

  2. Isn't can he stay healthy the biggest IF on Bishop?

  3. Bishop isn’t even a dream, he’s a bust Doc. We have already seen all we need to see of him in college and the minor leagues. He literally had only one good college season and he was only drafted because he was a 6’5 “potential” CF with tools. But the reality is that he’s not very good, he’s so injury prone that he basically misses every full year, he strikes out a lot and has no feel for hitting beyond a little power potential based off his 6’5 frame and one year of college. If he ever by chance was healthy and had one good MLB season by miracle, he’s a dude that’s going to be injury prone his entire life. FZ just stubborn and doesn’t want to give up on the guy he drafted but was fine with giving up the guy he didn’t draft

  4. Report from Visalia: Watched both games this week. As to Eldridge, he has hit the ball hard in both games. In the first game he hit two deep line drives - the first one the right fielder got to the ball, but then dropped it - error. The second was to right center for a double. Yesterday he hit a line drive to right, that I thought was just a single, but he legged it into a double. Perhaps he felt a twinge, because he was out of the game after that. Did not notice any limping or obvious reason for him to leave the game. Hope he is okay. The team is a collection of ballplayers. Maui Ahuna is a slick fielding shortstop. He hit a nice opposite field double in the first inning of last night's game for an RBI double. Dylan Carmouche commanded the strike zone. His fast ball only topped out at 88 MPH, but he was effective with it and with his off-speed stuff, resulted in no hits and 5 strikeouts in 4 innings. In yesterday's game, Junior Jose Flores, relief pitcher, was sitting between 94-96 MPH with his fastball - striking out 4 in 2 innings. Cole Foster played shortstop in yesterday's game. He does not have Ahuna's arm. APGiantsfan

  5. Trade Ramos to a team that will give him a shot

    1. Why?
Giants have a lot invested in Ramos, there is no reason to throw that away without a return. He may or not pan out in MLB, he does have warts, but if some other team values him higher, then they should offer.
Conforto and Slater will be Free Agents, the Giants may not want to pay YtY $9M (+/-) next year: that's 3 possible OF positions to fill with Matos and Ramos, 22 and 24 yo, as prime replacements.
They both will get prime shots next year, if not this year.

  6. Thanks for doing these every year!
