Down on the Farm: 4/11/2024

AAA:  Sacramento River Cats outscored the El Paso Chihuahuas 10-9:

David Villar DH- 2 for 3, 2 2B, BB.  BA= .205.
Heliot Ramos LF- 1 for 4, 3B.  BA= .318.
Chase Pinder CF- 2 for 3, BB.  BA= .400.
Brett Wisely 2B- 2 for 4.  BA= .364.
Daulton Jefferies RHP- 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K.  ERA= 4.82.

Carson Whisenhunt LHP didn't have it in this one and put the Cats in a 7-0 hole in just 1.1 IP.   Heliot's bases-loaded triple was the big blow in a comeback win.

AA:  Richmond Flying Squirrels edged out the Akron Rubber Ducks 2-1:

Jimmy Glowenke 2B- 1 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .286.
Carson Ragsdale RHP- 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 5 K.  ERA= 3.38.
Eric Silva RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 16.88.
Mat Olsen RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K.  ERA= 7/71.
Evan Gates RHP- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(1).  ERA= 0.00.

Nice bounceback by Eric Silva after getting torched in his previous appearance.  Carson Ragsdale struck out the side in the first inning.

A+:  Eugene Emeralds topped the Everett Aquasox 7-4:

Turner Hill LF- 3 for 4, BB, SB(1).  BA= .333.
Quinn McDaniel CF- 1 for 4, HR(1), SF.  BA= .438.
Onil Perez C- 2 for 3, 2 2B, BB, SB(2).  BA= .412.
Thomas Gavello 3B- 2 for 5.  BA= .214.
Jack Choate LHP- 4 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.25.

Onil Perez keeps raking and shows his SB speed last year was not a fluke.

A:  San Jose Giants blanked the Visalia Rawhide 3-0:

Josh Bostick RHP- 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.38.
Esmerin Vinicio LHP- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 9.00.
Cole Hillier RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.45.

Well, well, well!  The first shoe seems to have dropped in the fallouut from Scott Boras Corp's no-good, very bad, disastrous winter.  Jordan Montgomery LHP announced he was changing representation to Wasserman.  You have to wonder how many more will follow.

  1. Potential setback for Hunter Bishop: he came out of Richmond-Akron game after 1 AB last night, no indication why...

    1. I think someone commented yesterday that Bishop's big challenge was to stay healthy.......

  2. Is it strange that 6 of the Giants 8 losses have gone to the Starting Pitcher?
One thing it means is that when SF gets behind early they can't catch up — because the offense has been so anemic.
The 3 largest margin losses have come in Winn's 2 starts and Snell's "Training Camp" practice session that was a real game. We know why Snell lost but has Winn just been "unlucky?
Most likely it just means they need to score more!
3 games below .500 2 weeks into the season is nothing, but it would be nice to score more...

    1. The Giants have had a pattern of letting the opposing team score first. The league wide winning percentage for teams that score first is something like 60% or more.

    2. If scoring first is a 60% winning strategy, the lineup should reflect just that: always maximize probability of scoring in the first inning, and maybe using a ground ball Starter at home if the scheduled SP has proclivities of giving up an early run.
Maybe that's Tampa Bay's strategy: they seem to win without having especially good teams.

  3. Heard Interesting comments last month on Roger Munter' podcast interviewing retired Giants special assistant JP Riccardi, who had a 40 year baseball career. He said The Giants 2023 draft was the best they had in years, farm system making progress. He said Bryce Eldridge will be a good player, he wrote on his scouting report that his swing reminded him of Paul ONeil. keep an eye on Quinn McDaniel. He can swing the bat , play multiple positions, and a good athlete. He also likes pitcher Joe Whitman. He thinks Reggie Crawford will eventually be a good player. Would like to see the team push him more . I believe he's hurt now but in AA?. He thinks Marco Luciano not quite ready for the show yet, and Nick Ahmad was a good sign to give Luciano more development time.

    1. For what it's worth, per Baseball Savant, "NICK AHMED is currently leading MLB in Outs Above Average" (OAA is a defensive stat, it's a good thing!). (For reference, Google the text inside the quotation marks above).
Ahmed also has the 3rd highest bWAR on the Giants and the 2nd highest of non-pitchers.

    2. Ahmed doing that well really means that the rest of the team is doing lousy!
Major League hitters come to San Francisco and hit like 22-year olds in their first week in the Majors!
The "best" hitter on the team cannot drive home runs: Conforto has 22 LOBs in 13 games, 13 LOBs in the last 4 games: 1 win, 3 loses.
Zaidi's "good" signings cannot deliver "the hit"!
      Unwatchable...

    3. There might be a non-sequitor or two in there but I understand your point.
