Good to see Cole Foster, Giants 3'rd round draft pick off to a hot start after stumbling in a late promotion last season.
Last year, Diego Velasquez split his time between SS and 2B.
ReplyDeleteIn 2024 he's been @ short (SSS).
What's the prognosis: 2B or SS?
Doc's Top 50 Prospects has him sandwiched @ 21 between outfielders McCray and Brown, of them, who will continue to advance? And, Doc has 3 SS's (Luciano, Martin, and Arteaga) ahead of Velasquez (plus 3 more behind): Riches or Dreams?
At 20½ yo, premature to forecast continued success, but, what if, is he Thairo's successor @ 23 or 24 yo?
LOL, it's far too early, but fun!
Unless SF figures out how to light a fire under their roster's lineup, we'll spend 2024 watching the prospects! 10 days since the Giants scored more than 4 runs, 2-7 record since March 30th, two 3-2 wins against SD.
Doesn't matter how good the SPs OR the RPs are, with the team's BA falling toward the Mendosa Line and just 10 HRs in 12 games, something's gotta give! Being 12th in the NL in both team BA & HRs (and 12th worst in runs allowed), Snell and Cobb and Jackson won't be enough!
I'm bullish on Velasquez. SS and C are the two deepest positions in the system. The Giants should develop as many as SS as long as they can. Much easier to move from SS to 2B than 2B to SS.
