First of all, I am pretty sure Victor Bericoto currently weighs a lot more than 155 lbs, so let's get that out of the way. His rise through the Giants minor league system has been agonizingly slow and interrupted by the 2020 COVID season. While I don't have a precise scouting report, my feeling is he is a marginal fielder at any position and probably will have to DH or play 1B if/when he makes the major leagues. That puts a lot of pressure on the bat. It's a good bat. AA Richmond is a notoriously hitter-unfriendly environment. But is the bat good enough to be limited to 1B/DH? I would advocate for placing him in AAA Sacramento this season and see if he can take advantage of the more hitter-friendly league.
His progress does seem a bit slow, but in the last two years when he has reached RICHMOND (and improverd form one year to the next) he has been between 1.5 and 3 years below the average age for the League. He's still only 23 and likely headed for the PCL as you suggest, which is still a good development curve.
ReplyDeleteA very solid full time year in Richmond in 2024 with almost 500 AB in a league that can be a grind for hitters at times...261/.309 with 11HR and 60 RBIs..all good for Richmond and the EL
He has followed that up with a VERY GOOD Venezuelan League Season so far in 24-25 :---100 AB 5HR 14 RBI .298/.427. He has played Winter ball the last two season which also shows that he likes to play and get better!
But, you are right, he is all about the bat and only RF/DH with Eldridge as possibilities..Hopefully he just keeps hitting in the PCL and forces things

Perhaps an interesting thing about Victor Bericoto: he is the only player on your 2025 Top 50 (and Dominican Dandies) who was not selected by FZ.
