Jordan was a 2-sport athlete(football-WR) with four plus tools including "light-tower" power. In college he had a higher Hard Hit%(50) and Barrel%(13) than Giants first round pick James Tibbs III. Of course the big worry is his K rate, which is extremely high for a college hitter, and whether he can make enough contact to reach his power in the pro game. He played in the SEC so he faced plenty of high talent competition. He's a classic high-risk, high reward prospect who was definitely worth a 4'th round flyer on the ceiling. Ordinarily you expect a college draftee from a major conference to start their first full season in A+ ball but given the questions about his hit tool, he could start 2025 at A San Jose with an opportunity to move up if he proves to be too advanced for the level.
Not about Dakota, but this offseason is enough to drive fans nuts: Boras controls so many players who are after the almighty buck rather than what is good for the player and baseball.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the freaking point of a million dollars when the contracts are 100 million?
These guys are getting more than they and their 3rd generation can spend: what's the point? Isn't a 100-millionaire rich enough that he can't sign with a team he wants to play with?
Last year was a cluster-frup, Giants did well with Chapman, but Snell wasn't worth half of what he got and he did no one favors, and he wasn't ready to play and wouldn't go to Sacramento to get ready. Nor was Montgomery.
What a colossal f-up!
He's doing it again!
My G-O-D, players, go where you want to go, even if it LA, but don't wait for money you'll never spend: go with your heart!
Corbin Burnes did an end around on Boras and reached out to Arizona on his own. That move made sense because he has a home in Arizona and did not want to uproot his family again. Boras seems to have a blind spot towards families because he did not pursue Arizona at all for Burnes. I'm not sure if Boras involves families in his consultations but it appears Mrs Burnes was not involved initially.
DeleteBregman and Alonso should be able to ramp up quickly. Scherzer might have trouble if he does not sign soon. Alonso should be really annoyed at Boras for favoring his other client's signing (Soto) to the Mets and then the Mets subsequently stiffing Alonso after that $700 million hit. Not only that, Boras is putting a demand into the contract where Alonso gets paid if he opts OUT. The consensus is that Boras is probably not doing Alonso any favors. For Alonso, I can see where he is coming from. He has been a good Met for six years and then they empty the coffers for Soto.
