The Rogers Bros have been lights out for weeks but combined to allow a 3-run HR in the 7'th inning to doom the Giants chances of taking the first game of the series. Key Lines:
Brandon Crawford SS- 1 for 3, HR(5). BA= .219. The HR on a 3-2 pitch that Kruk and Kuip called made it a new game at 2-2. Alas, the lead evaporated in the top of the 7'th inning.
Ross Stripling RHP- 3.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 6.37. Stripling has been troubled by gofer balls all season and gave up a 2-run shot before many fans found their seats in the first inning. He settled down to pitch 2.2 more innings without giving up a run but you really want to see your SP get through the first inning without falling behind.
Taylor Rogers LHP- 0.2 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 1 K. ERA= 3.30. Rogers was wild and most of his pitches were easy calls by the ump. The second walk to Brenton Doyle looked like it caught the upper-outer corner of the strike zone which if called a strike would have ended the inning on a 3-2 pitch. It was a hanging pitch that clearly did not go where he wanted it. I think at least 90% of umps would have called it a ball.
Tyler Rogers RHP- 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 0 K. ERA= 2.01. Tyler Rogers gives up very few HR's but Ezequel Tovar took him deep on his first pitch driving in the two runners Taylor walked. Ballgame.
Again, the most concerning part of this loss is the almost complete lack of offense from the Giants lineup. The injuries are taking their toll and the league is starting to figure out the kids.
The Loss dropped the Giants to 3.5 games behind the D'Backs in the NL West and 1.5 games behind the Phillies in the race for the final Wild Card playoff spot. The Phils have won 4 in a row.
Ryan Walker RHP will open this afternoon's game against Connor Seabold RHP.
Churn Watch:
The Giants called up Mauricio Llovera RHP who had to be added to the 40-man roster. Keaton Winn RHP was optioned to AAA Sacramento and Dalton Guthrie OF was DFA'd. Kyle Harrison LHP was removed from the Futures Game with what the Giants described as a "moderate" hamstring strain. He will likely miss some significant time but the Giants insist they still expect him to pitch at the major league level before this season.
