This game followed an increasingly familiar pattern in which the Giants grab an early lead then fail to hang onto it in the middle innings and than can't come back late. Key Lines:
Mike Yastrzemski RF- 1 for 3, HR(3), BB. BA= .242. YtY drove in both runs with a 2-run blast in the first inning. Aside from 3 hits for J. D. Davis 3B the Giants offense pretty much died after that. The bottom 4 batters in the lineup went a combined 0 for 15 with 10 K's.
Alex Wood LHP- 2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 1.80. Wood left the game in the 3'rd inning when he grabbed the back of his leg after fielding a bunt. Hammy. I would think he is a near-lock for the IL and probably for several weeks. Wood is a very good pitcher when he's healthy but he's never been one to get deep into games and he has a long injury history. All in all the Giants have gotten about what you would expect from him. FZ has had a lot of success dating all the way back to this Dodger days with betting short term on players(mostly pitchers) with extensive injury histories. He got lucky and had everything break right in 2021 but if everything can break right, it can also break wrong and mostly be somewhere in between.
Jakob Junis RHP- 2.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 4.26. You can also expect Junis to regress to an ERA between 4.5 and 5. Today it was a 3-run HR by Jazz Chisholm CF that was the difference in the game.
Ross Stripling RHP- 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 7.30. Stripling finished his last appearance strong and looked good here while keeping the game close. Are we done with the early season jitters?
Taylor Rogers LHP- 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 15.75. Baby steps.
Alex Cobb RHP tries to salvage one win from the series and the road trip facing Trevor Rogers LHP tomorrow at 10:00 AM PT.
i wonder if tristan beck gets the nod for the next call up
ReplyDeleteShould the Giants give Clint Coulter a shot?
ReplyDeleteWhy not - RHB outfielder who has more games at C than Sabol.
He began improving when he got to AAA after the aborted 2020 season.
Evan Webeck, Mercury News: Giants called up RHP Tristan Beck to make his MLB debut; Ross Stripling likely steps into starting rotation.
