Nothing not to like about Casey Schmitt, except perhaps, you'd like more power from a 3B:
ReplyDelete54 PA, 5 2B, 0 HR, 5 2B, 1 W, 14 K (26%)
Curiously, his OBP is lower than his BA (3 extra PA: 1 W & 2 SF).
He's playing much more SS than 3B this year.
Per Marc Delucchi: "Zaidi revealed that he believes Schmitt is a viable big-league shortstop" and ".... considered the best infield defender in the farm system, Schmitt has handled shortstop surprisingly well." (https://www.si.com/mlb/giants/news/sf-giants-prospects-casey-schmitt-farhan-zaidi-ready)
At 24 yo, he is -2.6 years below AAA average.
What a difference he could make to the Giants! Fingers crossed!

When a player reaches a new level I like to see them making consistent contact and am willing to let the power come when they get settled in and more confident at the plate.
DeleteSchmitt is of to a hot start. Hope they don't go Chris Shaw with him.
