AAA: Sacramento River Cats defeated the Round Rock Express 7-4.
Casey Schmitt SS- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .310.
Matt Beaty 1B/RF- 2 for 5, HR(1). BA= .368.
Keaton Winn RHP- 3 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 6.57.
Chris Wright LHP- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Chris Wright gets the promotion from AA, probably because Sam Long LHP was DFA'd off the 40-man roster.
AA: Erie Seawolves topped the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-3.
Ismael Munguia RF- 2 for 3, BB. BA= .300.
Luis Matos LF- 2 for 4. BA= .295.
Tyler Fitzgerald SS- 1 for 2, 2 BB, SB(3). BA= .311.
Mason Black RHP- 2.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 5.23.
Erik Miller LHP- 3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Michael Stryfeller RHP- 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 4.50.
Blake Rivera RHP- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.
I think Matos' BA is the big story here.
A+: Eugene Emeralds beat the Hillsboro Hops 5-3.
Wade Meckler LF- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .500.
Adrian Sugastey C- 3 for 4. BA= .188.
Victor Bericoto 1B- 1 for 2, HR, BB. BA= .182.
Carson Ragsdale RHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 8 K's. ERA= 2.84.
Joe Kemlage RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 7.50.
Tyler Myrick RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(2). ERA= 0.00.
For all of FZ's obsession with HR's, it's interesting that many of the top performing hitting prospects in the Giants system are high contact/low power guys like Wade Meckler. Ragsdale putting up nice numbers back from TJ surgery last year.
A: Inland Empire 66'er's flattened the San Jose Giants 9-1.
Thomas Gavello 2B- 1 for 2, HR(1), BB, HBP. BA= .278.
Diego Velasquez SS- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .200.
Any word on when the handful of top prospects will be leaving extended spring training?
ReplyDeleteExtended spring training runs until complex league starts in June. They can be activated to a full season league team at any time. Reasons for extended spring training include working on specific things and rehabbing injuries.
DeleteThe Giants lost less bad than the Dodgers and the Padres, all three were shutout (0-7, 0-13, and -0-9), and all three are below .500!
ReplyDeleteThe consolation for the Giants is the Rox are worse in the West, but not much!
The Giants are tied with the Nationals for next-to-last in the NL, and only the Rockies, A's, and Royals have worse records in MLB.
So, SF not at rock bottom!
Sacramento is 9-10 but second in the Pacific Coast West.
Richmond is 8-5, also second in the Eastern Southwest.
Eugene is 7-4, first in the Northwest.
San Jose is 8-5, tied for first in the California North.
Despite their record, the Giants are not a really bad team, but they have difficulty with men on base: they don't score.
Their manager, who could do nothing wrong just 2 years ago, can't seem to do much right this year. Their former manager is doing well in Texas and the guy before him won the WS last year.
Their GM/VP/P hasn't been able to plug the holes this year after failing in the high-roller stakes in the off season. His success at trading for improvement to make up for a 10-year draft blizzard hit the wall this year with no home-grown position player above the Mendoza Line and the only semi reliable home-grown pitcher throws like a girl but not as hard.
Might extend the Richmond story to include Bailey, Mungia, and Fitzgerald, and maybe, with a stretch, Aldrete and Whiteman. Four of them have OPS above .900 in the Eastern League where Giant hitters usually go to die.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Blake Rivera has 10 Ks and 0 walks in five innings with 0 runs. Squirrels have 4 relievers yet to give up a run (earned or otherwise) plus Swiney who has allowed one rune (a homer) in 6 IP.
FZ's obsession with HR's, 3rd in MLB, may be what's wrong with the Giants: 22nd in Runs Scored, 21st in RBIs.
ReplyDeleteHRs don't do much for a team when they can't get runners on base (18th in OBP, 21st in BA).
HRs are like meat whereas getting on base is like eating vegetables
DeleteI like meat, but you have to have vegetables too.
