Game Wrap 4/25/2018: Nationals 15 Giants 2

The Nationals jumped on Jeff Samardzija early and never looked back in a blowout win as the Giants avoided sweeping the series.  If you are looking for a silver lining to this game, here it is:  It only counts as 1 loss in the standings.  Key Lines:

Brandon Belt 1B- 2 for 4 3B.  BA= .304.  Belt's triple set up the Giants second run of the game as Pablo Sandoval followed with a double.

Pablo Sandoval 3B- 2 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .242.  Sandoval's double drove in Brandon Belt for the Giants second run.

Brandon Crawford and Nick Hundley hit B2B doubles in the second inning for the Giants first run.

Jeff Samardzija RHP- 3.2 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 3 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 6.23.  There are some days when Shark just doesn't have it, and this was one of them.  Not sure what else to say.

Josh Osich LHP- 1.2 IP, 4 H 4 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 8.10.  Seems like Will Smith is just about ready. expect Osich to be gone as soon as Smith is activated.

The D'Backs lost to the Phillies so the Giants remain 5.5 games behind the NL West leaders in 4'th place.  The Rockies topped the Pathetic Padres and are 3.5 games behind the D'Backs in 2'nd place.  The Dodgers were outscored by the Marlins 8-6 to remain 5 games behind in 3'rd place.  The Last Place Padres bring up the rear, 8.5 games off the pace.

The Giants get tomorrow off at home before starting a 4 game series including a Saturday doubleheader against the Dodgers.  The Derek Holland kicks the series off Friday night facing Hyun-Jin Ryu.

  2. On a day a mixed-bag Giant lineup might have gotten to Mighty Max, the top of the 1st highlighted how quickly things can go wrong even when they seem in hand. Did Wilfo's 1-out infield single off Shark's foot affect him? He followed it with a wild pitch but got Harper, and without the WP, might have gotten out of the inning with even no runs had Blanco been able to play the ball that sailed over his head a little better. Looked possibly catchable but would have taken a good play.
Giants had opportunities but Scherzer showed why he's the best but the game was, effectively, out of hand before the 35,000 fans mostly arrived.
A good team will leave that behind and kick the snot out of Hyun-Jin tomorrow.
Giants have handled him in the past.
