Another game to pad the stat line. Mac continues to rake if for Sacramento. In response to a comment in yesterday's Down on the Farm, I am a big Austin Slater fan, but Mac is the one player in the organization who has the physical tools to hit 40 dingers in a season. Whether he'll ever do it? I don't know. The Giants owe to themselves to give him that chance at some point.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels topped the Reading Fightin' Phils 5-4:
Ronnie Jebavy CF- 1 for 2, 2 BB, SB(4). BA= .148.
Ryan Howard SS- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .371.
Matt Gage LHP- 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 2.45.
Mike Connolly RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00.
Tyler Cyr RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(1). ERA= 9.00.
So far, Howard is the best hitter, by far, on this team. Whether by WHIP or by K/BB, 1 ER looks like the real result from Gage's pitching line.

A+ San Jose Giants overcame a horrible rehab start by Jeff Samardzija to outlast the Stockton Ports 7-7 in 11 innings:
Bryce Johnson CF- 2 for 6. BA= .275.
Jalen Miller 2B- 1 for 4, HR(2), BB. BA= .342.
Gio Brusa 1B- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .286.
Jacob Heyward LF- 2 for 4, HR(2), BB. BA= .345.
Jeff Samardzija RHP- 2.2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 20.25.
Raffi Vizcaino RHP- 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Patrick Ruotolo RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 2.25.
Miller's dinger was a 2-run walkoff job. I know MadBum and Cueto have had ugly rehab starts that didn't mean a thing but my goodness! The meltdown occurred in the first inning after 2 flyball outs and went single single(2 throwing errors), double, walk, walk, Grand Slam HR. After that he seemed to settle down and finished with 5 K's. Raffi Vizcaino has pitched 9 shutout innings this season with 10 K's.

Camilo Doval RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 30.86.
Let's all cheer for Camilo Doval who finally completed an inning and did not allow any runs to boot!. Hopefully this is what gets this high-ceiling prospect going.

Really glad to see Steven Duggar getting back into the swing of things with Sacramento (no pun intended..). I think the organization (wisely) still thinks of him as a potential defensive cornerstone starting next year. The fact that he's struggled a bit, along with Shaw - two guys with huge, though different, pedigree - while Mac Williamson is dominating his competition, says even more about where Williamson's swing and eye are at right now. I think sometime in or around June if he keeps this up the Giants are going to need to find at bats for the guy in San Francisco. Of course, Pence has been coming around, and none of the 3 OF there are going to get benched for a rook. These things have a way of working themselves out though, and Mac will need to keep it up..
ReplyDeleteVery, very excited about Jalen Miller. The kid is still too young to not have some growing pains still to come, but his early start is a tremendous sign of meeting out his talent with results - none the less in the clutch.
I'm excited about Jalen Miller as well. I had not realized until recently that he's been pushed aggressively by the Giants up the farm system, and this is the first time to repeat a level, and hopefully have some success offensively. Also, makes sense not to promote anyone to AA until they are successful in Advanced A-ball.
DeleteCyr with save opportunity in Richmond last night..Simpson with it today..No Ray Black....which blows....haven't been able to find out if he's injured or what.. He was throwing 100 with a killer curve, but stuff has never been his problem....Howard looks like the real deal at SS
