Down on the Farm: 4/9/2018

AAA  Sacramento River Cats edged out the Tacoma Rainiers 3-2 in 7 innings, the first game of a DH:

Steven Duggar CF- 2 for 4.  BA= .188.
Chris Heston RHP- 3.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 2.70
DJ Snelton LHP- 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K. ERA= 8.10.
Derek Law RHP- 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 0 K, Save(1).  ERA= 3.00.

Not much to say here.  Hopefully this gets Duggar out of his funk.

AAA  Sacramento River Cats outscored the Tacoma Rainiers 6-5 in 7 innings, the second game of a DH:

Mac Williamson RF- 3 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .636.
Hector Sanchez C- 2 for 3.  BA= .429.
Dereck Rodriguez RHP- 3.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 9.82.
Madison Younger RHP- 3.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 6.23.

Mac continues to kill it for the River Cats.  Not hard to imagine him getting a callup if the Giants in general and Hunter Pence in particular continue to struggle offensively.

Ryan Howard SS- 2 for 4.  BA= .300.

Impressive K/BB for Williams in his AA debut.

A+  San Jose Giants blanked the Lancaster Jethawks 4-0:

Jalen Miller 2B- 3 for 4, 2B.  BA= .333.
Heath Quinn LF- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(1). BA= .214.

Carlos Diaz LHP- 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 0.00.

Miller jumps his BA all the way to .333.  Pretty dominant start for Raffi Vizcaino in a tough place to pitch.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets smothered the Greensboro Grasshoppers 7-4:

Malique Ziegler CF- 2 for 3, HR(1), 2 BB, SB(3).  BA= .333.

John Russell RHP- 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(1).  ERA= 0.00.

Heliot Ramos got the night off while Jacob Gonzalez DH'd.  Nice start for Marciano.  Camilo Doval might not be ready for this level?

  1. Excluding injury - What is the most probable route for Mac making the team? I doubt pence is going to get waived, think the best bet is probably Gorky getting waived and Mac splitting time with Pence.

  2. Maybe it's too soon, but as far as I'm concerned it's time to bring Mac up and give him the LF job. Pence is not only struggling offensively, but defensively as well, and has already (along with Jackson & Longoria) generated -0.3 WAR.

  3. i wonder how much of pence's contract the giants will eat to acquire a back end starter? i could see pence being packaged to houston for colin mchugh with the giants retaining most of his salary to make room for williamson

    1. No one would buy Pence and from a PR/marketing perspective, he could bring back enough to make it worth selling him. They’d be better off giving him a phantom injury to bring someone up the. Bringing him back for a farewell tour in Sept.
