Down on the Farm: 4/12/2018

AAA  Reno Aces edged out the Sacramento River Cats 5-4:

Austin Slater RF- 1 for 3, 2B. BA= .381.
Chris Shaw LF- 1 for 3, HR(3), BB.  BA= .333.
Conner Menez LHP- 4 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 9.00.
DJ Snelton LHP- 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 5.68.
Steven Okert LHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Menez gets the call up to Sacramento where he struggled in his AAA debut.  Snelton pitches 3 strong innings.  Wasn't Okert just called up to SF?  That didn't last long!

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels were idle.

A+  Stockton Ports topped the San Jose Giants 4-1:

Caleb Baragar LHP- 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 6.75.
Will Smith LHP- 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 9.00.
Nolan Riggs RHP- 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Patrick Ruotolo RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.50.

Baragar apparently replaced Menez who was called up to Sacramento.  Both of those moves may be temporary. I think I had forgotten that Baragar was even in the organization! Will Smith begins his rehab assignment from last year's Tommy John surgery.

Low A Lexington Legends outscored the Augusta Greenjackets 6-5:

Heliot Ramos CF- 2 for 5, SB(1).  BA= .219.
Ryan Kirby 1B- 2 for 5, 2 2B, SB(2). BA= .200.
Jacob Gonzalez 3B- 2 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .265.
Manuel Geraldo SS- 1 for 5, HR(1).  BA= .240.
Jeffry Parra C- 1 for 1, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .231.
John Gavin LHP- 5 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Camilo Doval RHP- 0.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 54.00.
CJ Gettman RHP- 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. 1.69.

Gavin has 12 K's and 2 BB's in 9.2 IP over 2 Starts.  Does poor Camilo Doval need just one good appearance to get his confidence going or is he just not ready for this level?

  1. I hope Austin Slater is not a forgotten man!
If he had stayed healthy last year he projected 18 homers +

    1. Can we dream on a a homegrown OF of Slater, Mac and Steven Duggar for next season? That would be fun!

    2. Don't forget Shaw! I view Slater as a super-utility guy, grabbing starts from all the OF positions, plus some infield as well, 2B, 3B, 1B.

    3. When was the last time Austin Slater played any position other than OF?

  2. Yeah, the Giants needed a 25-man spot for Suarez, and Okert took Cueto's spot, so they sent him back after a day in order to open a spot for Suarez. Then Suarez was optioned back and Law brought up.

Hopefully Cueto returns in time for that slot, else I believe Suarez can be recalled, in spite of the rule regarding length of time back in minors after being optioned down, if Cueto is injured, which would be a reason he can't take his next start. SO apparently the Giants expect Cueto to be healed enough to take his next start.
