Down on the Farm: 8/4/2019

Jaylin Davis RF- 2 for 3, 2B, HR(2), BB.  BA= .700.
Joe McCarthy DH- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA- .143.

Jaylin Davis continues to rake.  I missed Joe McCarthy's Giants organizational debut on 8/3.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels edged out the Harrisburg Senators 3-2:

Jason Heyward LF- 2 for 3, BB, SB(7).  BA= .216.
Johneshwy Fargas CF- 2 for 3, 2 SB(42).  BA= .245.
Brandon Lawson RHP- 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.74.

A+ Inland Empire 66'ers outlasted the San Jose Giants 5-4 in 12 innings:

Heliot Ramos CF- 1 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .307.
Kyle McPherson 2B- 1 for 3, 3B, BB.  BA= .248.
Manuel Geraldo SS- 1 for 5, 3B.  BA= .225.
Tristan Beck RHP- 5.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 1.59.
Frank Rubio RHP- 2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.75.
Olbis Parra RHP- 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 2.50.

I attended this game courtesy of the Teamster's Union.  Thanks to whoever came up and gave me and my party 4 tickets.  Heliot Ramos looks a bit.....chunkier?....than would seem to be ideal for a 19 yo, but then so did Mike Trout.  Joey Bart and David Villar struck out 5 times in 10 AB's between them and look to have significant swing and miss in their games.  Joey Bart is a big dude!  Tristan Beck had an impressive looking fastball that ranged from 92-96 MPH on the stadium radar gun.  He may have been throwing both a 2-seam and 4-seam offering.  A slow curve and low 80's changeup both need refining.  Frank Rubio has a funky delivery throwing crossfire from a nearly sidearm slot.  His FB topped out at 89 MPH.  Olbis Parra showed a 94 MPH heater with lots of sink.  He gave up a game-tying HR on a FB up in the zone.

Simon Whiteman SS- 2 for 4, BB, SB(6).  BA= .317.

Andres Angulo C- 2 for 4.  BA- .205.
Anyesber Sivira 2B- 2 for 4. BA= .250.
Seth Corry LHP- 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 1.72.

  1. Fangraphs 40+ rating for Joe McCarthy makes him the 2nd best player the Giants picked up (after Maricio Dubon) and the 6th best Giant position player prospect (tied with P J Hilson -- ?) after Bart, Ramos, Luciano, Dubon, and Canario.
But keep an eye on Jaylin Davis -- he's found magic this year.
Fangraphs comment on Zaidi's acquisitions: "It makes sense for SF to keep trying fringe 40-man types in the hope that one sticks or becomes tradable later."
    The Muncy syndrome?

  2. Considering what Z inherited he is doing a Good Job of upgrading the Farm, along with the best OF in SF in a few years with focused now changed to doing same to the IF.............at the least be able to rest The Core more on the Bench to keep them fresher.

  3. Vogt subs Posey with more O and less D
Solano subs Panik with more O and less D
Sandoval subs Longoria and Belt with more O and less D
Gennett will give some O allowing Solano to spell Crawford at SS
Solarte, Green, and Austin have been tried with less success and FZ has moved on.
Buster has only played 1B 2 games this year -- which recognizes that he is a catcher first and not a potent enough bat at 1st.
It hasn't been without trying in the infiel -- wonder if Dubon will get a shot anytime soon -- September?
