AAA Nashville Sounds edged out the Sacramento River Cats 3-2:
Mauricio Dubon SS- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .293.
Zach Green 3B- 1 for 4, HR(25). BA= .286.
Chris Shaw DH- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .295.
Logan Webb RHP- 7 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 7 K's, GO/AO= 9/2. ERA= 1.29.
Just a wild guess: I'm gonna say Logan Webb's next start is in a San Francisco Giants uniform. You can't have a much better AAA tune-up start than this and as several commenters have observed, the Giants are in dire straights for starting pitching.

A Greenville Drive outscored the Augusta Greenjackets 6-5:
Simon Whiteman 2B- 1 for 4, BB, SB(7). BA= .277.
Tyler Fitzgerald SS- 1 for 3, BB, SB(1). BA= .333.
Logan Wyatt 1B- 0 for 2, 2 BB. BA= .000.
Jacob Gonzalez LF- 2 for 3, BB. BA= .236.
Three new arrivals in the lineup for the GJ's: SS Tyler Fitzgerald, 1B Logan Wyatt and 3B Sean Roby. Jacob Gonzalez gets bumped to LF to make room for Wyatt and Roby in the IF. Gotta wonder if Jacob hangs around for next season after his second underwhelming stint in Augusta.

Short Season Tri-City Dust Devils blanked the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 2-0:
Hunter Bishop CF- 0 for 2, 2 BB, SB(6). BA= .215.
Travis Perry RHP- 5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 3.47.
Tyler Shimpf RHP- 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 1.11.
Preston Tucker RHP- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.35.
Hunter Bishop's excellent adventure in walks continues. That .215 BA comes with a .416 OBP and just a .323 SLG%. That's Brandon Belt on steroids!......or not. Ha ha! Maybe the Bishop Wars are coming down the pike?

Rookie AZL Giants Orange crushed the Giants Black 15-4:
Orange:
Abdiel Layer 2B- 3 for 5, 2 2B, HR(4), SB(4). BA= .286.
Edison Mora SS- 3 for 5, 2 2B. BA= .258.
Jesus Gomez LHP- 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 3.89.
Huge line for Abdiel Layer. Edison Mora's 3'rd multi-hit game in a row. Jesus Gomez is one of the promising LHP's who graduated from the DSL this season. This was his second scoreless start in a row with 16 K's in 10.1 IP, 3 BB.
Black:
Jean Pena 3B- 2 for 4. BA= .202.
Trevor McDonald RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Trevor McDonald makes his pro debut. He was drafted out of Mississippi HS in the 11'th round this year. The Giants worked hard to get him an overslot deal. He appears to have, by far, the highest ceiling of any pitcher in the Giants 2019 draft.

DSL Colorado defeated the Giants 6-2:
Luis Matos CF- 1 for 3, 2B, BB, SB(18). BA= .355.
Ronaldo Flores 1B- 2 for 4. BA= .329.
Someone asked about a perceived discrepancy between published scouting reports on Luis Matos and his performance. First a couple of comments: 1. You will rarely, if ever, find a player graded above 50 from rookie leagues. It's just too hard to project 17 and 18 yo bodies. 2. International signing agreements usually go down when the kid is as young as 13 or 14. Once the verbal agreement is in place, the organization does everything in their power to prevent the player from being formally scouted for obvious reasons. Thus, reliable scouting reports are extremely difficult to find before the player actually starts playing in official games.
My own scouting report on Matos is quite bullish. In addition to his exciting numbers, on video he has a tall, lean whip-like body with long, loose limbs and wiry strength. At the same time, the frame looks solid enough to add muscle mass as he gets older. Love this kid!

Jacob Gonzalez: he's still young (21) has picked up his game a good bit of late -- last 10-12 games. That said, he's a real butcher in the infield so moving to the OF may help?
ReplyDeleteAs a 2nd round pick, sandwiched by Wunderkind and Seth Corry, he'll get opportunity.
Let's see what a Year under the Z Plan Player Development does for him, I'm expecting to see a lot more success stories out of the Farm. In the past they were there mainly as trade fodder for veterans and I'm expecting a real push for Player Development from Z.
DeleteHow many Prospects in the Top 100 MLB? I believe its 4 and it's been awhile since we had 4, how many more will be added next year......another 2?
ReplyDeleteThat with better Player Development is the best way to get this Team back in the hunt for a WS.
Headlline: Logan's Run Continues! his run, his string of good games, his run to the majors. Very exciting - hope Logan gets the call up soon and he sticks and that Seth Corry gets called up next summer.

Read that Baggs believes that the proposed changes to the dimensions of Oracle Park have something to do with what the Giants heard from Bryce Harper in their failed pursuit. He doesn't like hitting at Oracle and the bullpen mounds are a safety hazard which is most important. While I like the triples alley quirk, I'm glad they are considering moving the bullpen mounds there if it will help them sign free agent hitters. My question is will it hurt them signing free agent pitchers? But the big reason to change the dimensions which makes the most sense is the bullpen mounds are a safety hazard now for the outfielders which unfortunately derailed Mac Williamson's career.
