Game Wrap 6/8/2022: Giants 2 Rockies 1

Alex Wood LHP pitched 7 strong innings.  This time the bullpen shut it down enabling the Giants to win in extra innings.

Luis Gonzalez RF- 1 for 3, 2 BB, SB(4).  BA= .322.  Gonzalez did not get credit for a game-winning RBI but his 10'th inning single enabled "Ghost Runner" Donovan Walton SS to score when Charlie Blackmon RF let the ball get behind him.  Earlier in the game, Blackmon threw out Gonzalez at home plate, so Luis picked himself up on that hit.

Mike Yastrzemski CF- 3 for 4, 2B.  BA= .288.  Between YtY and LuGone, the Giants top two hitters in the lineup reached base 6 times out of 8 PA's, yet Gonzalez' 10'th inning hit was the only time they figured in the scoring and they got credited with 0 Runs and 0 RBI's.

Joc Pederson LF struck out 4 times but saved the game in the top of the 10'th with a running catch on a ball that was over his head off the bat of Ryan McMahon.

Alex Wood LHP- 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 8/1.  ERA= 4.23.  You can't ask for much more than Wood gave the Giant tonight and they needed it.

Logan Webb RHP goes for a series win tomorrow afternoon against Austin Gomber LHP.

The Joey Bart Era got put on indefinite hold as he was sent down to AAA to work on his swing.  The Giants made a transaction to bring in a back up catcher for Curt Casali trading Michael Plassmeyer LHP to the Phillies for Austin Wynn's a RH batting C.  They probably had to make this move because Michael Papierski C was optioned too recently to be called up again.

  1. We're completed a third of the way through 2022.
    Who are these guys?
Where are the Brandons? Where's the infield? Where's the catcher? Where's the outfield? Where's the relief pitching? Where's the clutch?
This team is simply no fun to watch.
With last year's magician at the helm, SF was a first place team from May 31 through the rest of the season (except 1 day, September 1, a half game out), a mostly set rotation, a safe bullpen, a clutch team.
OK, the Giants weren't expected to win 107 games again, but will they struggle to get 88 wins without a genius and led by Luis Gonzales, and maybe eke out a playoff birth?
Sorry, I've given up watching. It's too painful.
I check the scores, read Doc's blog, check the next day's pitchers and wonder who the heck are these guys are...
