Down on the Farm: 6/26/2022

AAA:  Sacramento River Cats defeated the El Paso Chihuahuas 5-3.

Austin Dean 1B/LF- 1 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .251.
Willie Calhoun DH- 3 for 4.  BA= .233.
Sean Hjelle RHP- 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K. ERA= 4.50.

Sean Hjelle's composite pitching line over his last 5 appearances:  2-1, 1.17, 23 IP, 7 BB, 23 K.   Several prospect rankers all but wrote him off this offseason due to struggles after his promotion to AAA midseason last year.  Well, he's not struggling this season and he's pitched well in a couple of MLB cameos to boot.  Stock is way up.

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels beat the Portland Sea Dogs 7-2.

Michael Gigliotti CF- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .244.
Frankie Tostado 1B- 2 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .298.
Sean Roby 3B- 2 for 3, HR(19), BB.  BA= .211.
Shane Matheny SS- 1 for 1, 2B, 3 BB, SB(3).  BA= .291.
Kyle Harrison LHP- 7 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 11 K. ERA= 4.02.

Harrison seems to have found his footing after promotion to AA.  His composite pitching line over his last three starts is 2-0, 1.50, 18 IP, 8 BB, 27 K.

A+:  Eugene Emeralds broke up the Tri-City Dust Devils 9-4.

Vaun Brown RF- 1 for 3, 2 BB, SB(2).  BA= .429.
Hunter Bishop CF- 2 for 4, 3B, BB.  BA= .231.
Wil Jensen RHP- 5.2 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.92.

Vaun Brown picking up where he left off on San Jose.  Hunter Bishop continues his June resurgence slashing .279/.392/.535 in the month so far.

A:  San Jose Giants came from behind to top the Stockton Ports 7-6.

Grant McCray CF- 1 for 4, BB.  BA= .300.
Carter Williams LF- 4 for 4, 2B, HR(4), SF, SB(2).  BA= .553.
Riley Mahan 2B- 1 for 4, HR(7), BB.  BA= .274.
Garrett Frechette 1B- 2 for 5.  BA= .296.
Ronaldo Flores C- 2 for 4, HR(3), BB, SB(1).  BA= .261.

Again, not sure why Williams was sent down to SJ from Eugene, but he's too good for this level.

  1. San Jose's victory completed a sweep of the six-game series and was San Jose’s (43–26, 3–0 second half) 11th consecutive win overall and are one victory away from matching their team record for longest winning streak (12 games in 2011).

As for Carter Williams being dropped to SJ, perhaps it's just a matter of numbers. Brown had to be moved up adding to a glut of OFers in Eugene while leaving a shortage in SJ. Williams will get a better chance to play regularly there. All that is conjecture, but Brown joins Bishop, Gaskins, Matos, and Pomares, all 5 on the active roster (https://www.milb.com/eugene/roster). Somebody had to go?

    1. Probably true re. Williams. Maybe Matos would benefit from a reset at a lower level? Grant McCray is also getting close to forcing a promotion if he stays on fire another few weeks.
