DrB's 2020 Giants Top 50 Prospects: #41 Ricardo Genoves

Ricardo Genoves C.  DOB:  5/14/1999.  B-R, T-R.  6'2", 190 lbs.

Short Season:  .252/.322/.481, 7 2B, 3B, 7 HR, 7.5 BB%, 16.4 K%, GB/FB= 1.32, 146 PA.
Low A:  .292/.361/.446, 4 2B, 2 HR, 8.3 BB%, 23.6 K%, GB/FB= 1.00, 72 PA.

Ricardo Genoves signed for $800 K as an international FA in 2015 at the age of 16.  I believe that was the same year the Giants blew past the bonus pool by signing Lucius Fox.  Genoves has been a slow mover in the system but had a spike in power across two levels in 2019.  He's a heavy bodied catcher almost certainly much heavier than his listed weight.  The Fangraphs Boys say he's "built like one of the Moai sculptures on Easter Island."  His lack of mobility behind the plate causes pitch framing challenges but he has a plus arm and plus leadership skills.

2020 will be a pivotal year for him as he is eligible for the Rule 5 draft next winter at an age when college prospects are just being drafted, which is a big pet peeve of mine, but that's another post in itself.  Has he come far enough for an assignment to San Jose?

  1. FWIW, Lucious Fox:
Made it to AAA last year for 49 PA's
    15 K's, 6 W .143/.250/.190/.440
Fangraphs #11 in Tampa Bay prosects (could move him up 1 slot since Liberatore was traded), but his 45+ FV would put him tied with Giants' Ramos and Luciano
