Scouting the 2020 Draft: Carson Montgomery

Carson Montgomery RHP, HS.  6'2", 190 lbs.

Average sized RHP with a mid-90's FB, maxed out at 96 MPH.  Excellent breaking ball and promising changeup.  Athletic enough to be a 2-way player doubling as OF with a 6.81 60 yd dash time, but will be a pitcher in the pros.  Committed to Florida St.  Second or third round option if deemed signable.  Would be higher if the draft class wasn't so darn deep.

  1. Little surprising Montgomery chose FSU because of the coaching succession after the 2019 season from father to son.
Mike Martin Sr was a 40-year coach with a spectacular program, although FSU was never a CWS champion in its long history after being a girls-only school until the late 40's.
Certainly Mike Martin Jr is well-trained but there are such powerhouses in the "other conference" that must have pursued Montgomery, Vanderbilt, LSU, and Florida. Gainesville is but 100 miles up the pike from his home in Windermere.
On an entirely different note, Aubrey Huff was not invited to the 10-year reunion of the 2010 Champs for his politically very-incorrect tweets. Many, perhaps most, SF fans will agree with the decision but Huff WAS the 2010 giant of Giants.
Huff acknowledged he had a meeting with Giants CEO Larry Baer and said that he was not invited to the ceremony because of his support for President Trump and his locker room humor.
He later dissed Alyssa Nakken's hiring which probably confirmed the team wisdom. It would have been uncomfortable.
