Game Wrap 6/2/2019: Giants 8 Orioles 1

Jeff Samardzija bounced back from a poor start against the Marlins in Miami with a Quality Start.  The Giants offense came to life in the 4'th and then kept adding on in support.  Key Lines:

Evan Longoria 3B- 3 for 5, 2B, HR(7).  BA= .220.  Longo's Longball broke an 0 for 19 slump and got the Giants on the board with 2 RBI's in the 4'th inning.  He added a double and single and another RBI later in the game.

Brandon Belt 1B- 1 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .243.  Belt is happy to be out of his personal Oracle Park prison and is hitting .348 with a .500 OBP in his last 7 games.

Brandon Crawford SS- 2 for 5, 2 HR(5).  BA= .214.  Crawford is another guy who is happy to be out of Oracle Park hitting .280 with a .945 OPS over his last 7 games.

Steven Vogt C- 1 for 2, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .255.  Vogt is 4 for 12, .333 over his last 7.

Jeff Samardzija RHP- 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 8/3.  ERA= 3.61.  Shark managed to keep the first inning damage to just 1 run then settled down to throw a QS, his second is 3 starts.  His only other QS came early in April.

Bullpen- 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K's.  Reyes Moronta, Tony Watson and Will Smith needed work so they got to throw some pitches in near-blowout.

The Giants won the series and evened their record on the road trip at 3-3.

The Giants get Draft Day off before taking on the Mets in New York on Tuesday with Madison Bumgarner facing Big Daddy Thor.  Hey!  Maybe he'll take a picture with Baby Thor?

  1. If Brandon Belt wanted out of his Oracle shackles couldn't he start by dropping his blocked teams?
The list for 2019 doesn't seem to be published, but Bumgarner's list is full of contenders who might want him and give up a good prospect for him. Bum definitely doesn't want to be traded -- does Belt?
Not aware who would want him without a substantial discount @ 31 yo, declining, injury prone, a projectable 2019 1.5 WAR, and 2 more years of salary.
Unless the Giants really want to put someone else at 1B, they're better off keeping BB -- at least he is some draw in a disappointing season for the Giants on the field AND at the gate.
Talk about opening 1B for Posey is silly -- his strength is catching not hitting especially not in a low-D power position.
