Someone commented yesterday about how impressed they are with the "talent" in Sacramento.  I am alway amazed at what straws folks will grasp when they are desperate to believe in something.  Here's a dose of reality about the "talent" in Sacramento.  Young Yaz is 28 yo and this is his 4'th season in AAA.  Gerber is 26 and in his 3'rd AAA season. He has MLB experience.  Henry Ramos is 27 yo and in his 4'th AAA season.  Austin Slater is 26 years old and in his 4'th AAA season and has MLB experience.  Let's not confuse minor league performance with "talent".  Do you know what they call a 26-28 yo player with multiple years of AAA and some MLB experience?  A AAAA player, that's what!  You take a bunch of those players, put them in an extreme hitter-friendly league, give them a juiced baseball and you're going to get some numbers.  Just don't be shocked if they do a faceplant when they get their next MLB opportunity.  Remember when Brian Sabean used to talk about trying to "catch lightning in a bottle?"  This is "catch lightening in a bottle" on steroids(pardon the term).  It's throwing a lot of darts hoping one of them hit's a bull's eye or throwing stuff at the wall hoping something sticks.  So far, we've had no bull's eyes and nothing sticking.

LG notes yesterday's Fangraphs Mock Draft 2.0 with the Giants taking SS Bryson Stott from UNLV.  They are also thought to be interested in OF Kameron Misner and RHP Alek Manoah.  The stars seem to be aligning for them to take Stott at #10 who I think would be the Best Player Available, which is not to disrespect Misner or Manoah who are good players too, but I think Stott is the clear cut BPA if he's there, which it seems increasingly likely he will.  OF Hunter Bishop has had a huge junior season in Arizona and is a late riser.  He could still be available and would be an interesting choice.

  1. You are correct on evaluating the talent at Sacramentoi, It is not as though we have a young Cody Bellinger down there. Fact is the MLB team needs another bottom 5 finish to earn a top 5 pick in next year's draft where perhaps they could grab a young superstar.
