Game Wrap 9/8/2018: Brewers 4 Giants 3

The Giants rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to make it close but were not able to completely close the gap for a 1-run loss.  Key Lines:

Austin Slater RF- 1 for 3.  BA= .280.  Slater drove in the Giant first run on a contested play at the plate.  Gregor Blanco started the rally by reaching on throwing error.  Chase d'Arnaud grounded in to a force out but took 2B on a groundout by Kelby Tomlinson.  Slater hit a grounder through the hole into LF and d'Arnaud was initially called out at the plate.  The Giants challenged and the call was overturned.  Not sure what the Giants record on challenge plays, but it's really good.  Just for comparison, the Brewers are 5 for 22, which is really bad.  They don't challenge very often and are usually unsuccessful then they do.  Also, Austin Slater has the highest BA of any player on the Active Roster with more than 11 AB by a margin of .015.

Ryder Jones PH/1B- 1 for 1, HR(2).  BA= .429.  Jones PH for d'Arnaud after a single by Gregor Blanco.  Jones hit a rocket into the R-CF bleachers.  He is now 3 for 7 with 2 dingers.  Jones hit .274 with 11 dingers on the season in Sacramento.  Jones is a guy with tremendous power potential if he can just make enough contact.

Chris Stratton RHP- 5 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 4.99.   Stratton didn't get blown out. It was more a case of not being able to stop the bleeding.  A dinger here, a walk there, a double, another HR, it all added up to 4 runs in 5 IP and a non-QS.  I guess we'll chalk it up to facing a very good lineup in a hitter-friendly ballpark, at least for now.

Abiatal Avelino SS- 0 for 2, 2 K.  BA= .000.  Forget the batting line.  What really matters here is Avelino's stretching routine before an AB.  Ch-ch-check it out on sfgiants.com.

The Loss dropped the Giants record to 68-75, .476.  They keep the 12'th worst record in MLB.

Madison Bumgarner tries to salvage a win in the series and the road trip tomorrow facing RHP Zach Davies.
