Logan Webb finishes an otherwise fine season on a downer note which probably has no bearing on his future.

A+ Modesto Nuts crushed the San Jose Giants 7-0:

Jalen Miller 2B- 2 for 4.  BA= .276.
John Russell RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Low A  Columbia Fireflies blanked the Augusta Greenjackets 1-0:

Caleb Baragar LHP- 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 4.03.

Nice Giants organizational debut fo Juan De Paula, likely the real prize from the Andrew McCutchen trade.  Both teams mustered just 2 hits but one of the Fireflies hits was a solo dinger, the difference in the game.

Short Season  Hillsboro Hops topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 9-7:

Kyle McPherson 2B- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .314.
Joey Bart C- 2 for 4, HR(13), HBP.  BA= .298.
David Villar 3B- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(13).  BA= .279.
Wander Franco the Younger 1B- 3 for 4, 2 2B, HR(5).  BA= .311.

Sean Hjelle RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 5.06.

5 of Aaron Bond's 7 hits over his last 7 games were dingers.  He now has the team lead in dingers by 1 over Joey Bart and David Villar.  Wander the Younger is hitting .450 over his last 10 games. He hit .303 in July and is hitting .322 in August after hitting just .220 in June.

  1. With 3 of the Volcanoes bunched together in the top 4 HR hitters in the NWL (and not near the top of games played) are they legitimate future power hitters?

    1. The NWL is historically a fairly extreme hitter's league so we should interpret stats, especially hitting stats, with caution. Still, Bart and Villar have power cred from college. Bond is a sleeper type with tools who could blossom or fade away when he hits stronger competition.
