Scouting the 2015 Draft: Kyle Funkhouser
BA's #4 draft prospect for 2015 is college RHP Kyle Funkhouser of Louisville. Funkhouser certainly had a stellar season in 2014 with a line of 13-3, 1.94, 120.1 IP, 65 BB, 122 K's. He is solidly built at 6'2", 218 lbs. According to Kiley McDaniel, who ranks him at #10, Funkhouser's FB sits 92-94 MPH and tops out at 96. He gets raves for his ability and willingness to work both sides of the plate which a lot of college pitchers are not willing to do. He has a plus slider to go with the FB. The changeup is promising, but less developed. As you can tell from the walk rate, he loses command at times.

Offtopic but Adalberto Mejia was just suspended for 50 games for taking a banned substance. An illegal weight loss pill that has been linked to heart attacks and strokes. That is very sad to hear especially that he would risk his life to improve his game. DrB, how does this effect his status in the Top 50?
ReplyDeleteProbably not much. 50 games takes you to about June 1, so he will get to play for 3 months in 2015.
DeleteIs it to improve his game, except insofar as it would keep him from getting fat? The descriptions of this drug that I have read on line don't say anything about strength or alertness or endurance. All they say has to do with obesity, which to my way of thinking doesn't make it a PED.
DeleteMany diet pills are closely related to amphetamines.
