Down on the Farm: 7/7/2013

AAA  Sacramento River Cats edged the Fresno Grizzlies 3-2:

Ydwin Villegas(SS)- 2 for 3.  BA= .433.

What is Ydwin Villegas doing in Fresno and howtheheck is he hitting .433?  Hey, you know who has not been in the Fresno boxscores for awhile?  Frankie Pegs!  I must have missed something.

AA Richmond Flyhing Squirrels pounded the Akron Aeros 15-7:

Javier Herrera(LF)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .310.
Adam Duvall(DH)- 2 for 3, HR(8), 2 BB.  BA= .256.
Angel Villalona(1B)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .200.
Joe Panik(2B)- 2 for 4, 2B, Sac.  BA= .255.
Mark Wagner(C)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .190.
Ryan Lollis(CF)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .281.
Jarrett Parker(RF)- 2 for 5, SB(10).  BA= .241.
Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 1 for 3, 2B, BB, SF.  BA= .239.
Drew Bowlin(RHP)- 4.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.93.
Cody Hall(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Bowlin seems to have found a place he can thrive in Richmond, but his K/BB is 16/12 in 23.1 IP.  Nice game for the hitters to pad their stat lines.

High A  San Jose Giants blanked the Lake Elsinore Storm 2-0:

Mac Williamson(RF)- 3 for 4.  BA= .270.
Ricky Oropesa(1B)- 2 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .467
Edwin Escobar(LHP)- 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 2.89.

That's a mighty fine trio of lefties the Giants have in Blach, Escobar and Mejia.

Low Augusta Greenjackets vs Charleston River Dogs was suspended after 3 innings with the 'Jackets leading 2-0:

Jesus Galindo(CF)- 1 for 2, SB(38).  BA= .274.
Matt Duffy(SS)- 1 for 1, BB, SB(17).  BA= .311.
Chris Stratton(RHP)- 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.67.

Short Season  Everett Aquasox topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 6-1:

Nothing to see here.

  1. I don't remember what happened, but I think Peguero has been out a couple weeks. Escobar is hot right now... man it'd be nice if some of these guys could keep working their way up the ladder.

    1. We have 6 kids that I call the "Uber-Arms". Crick, Mejia, Blackburn, Escobar, Stratton and Agosta. Blach, Flores and Marlowe may have pitched themselves into that group as well.

I ink there is a good chance that at least 3 of those 9 guys can develop into serious members of a rotation by mid '15 or so.

    2. That'd sure be nice, but besides Crick, I feel like it's a complete crapshoot with these guys. The biggest concern I have right now is durability. Most of them have spent time on the DL in the first half, so let's hope for a more healthy second half. I'm pretty excited to see what these kids can do at higher levels.

    3. Crick is no a tier by himself, that's for sure. If he keeps up his performance and avoids another injury, I would think he will be fairly high on next years Top 100.

    1. A couple of weeks ago Peguero was hit by a pitch on the top of the helmet while batting. He was able to walk off the field under his own power with a bit of help but was put on the DL with a concussion. I have seen him in the Fresno dugout and he looks okay. He should be back playing soon. APGiantsfan

  3. Is it too early to start saying that Joe Panik was a waste of a 1st round pick?? He seems to be following Brown's footsteps.

  4. Any ideas on the reason for the short start for Stratton? Also, can Herrera be a useful player at some point? He's putting up good looking numbers in the EL.

    1. Strattons's game was suspended by rain after 3 innings.

I think Herrera has a chance to be a successful reclamation project if he can stay healthy.
