The Giants offense fell back into their old, bad habits as Matt got Cained once again. Key Lines:
Brett Pill- 2 for 4, HR(2). BA= .429. Brett Pill picks up right where he left off in AAA hitting his second HR in as many big league games in his fledgling career. The last guy to do that? John Bowker. Let's hope for Pill's sake his career turns out better. I do think there is something to be said for a guy who grinds through all the minor league levels and gets enough professional AB's to have almost seen it all. I would venture to say that Pill learned more playing all year at AAA with no expectations other than being the best he can be than Belt did yo-yoing up and down. Hey, if Bochy believes in playing the hot hand.....
Matt Cain- 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 2.84. The first batter of the game, Will Venable took him deep. Cain then settled down and allowed just 2 walks and no hits until the 6'th inning when he gave up another run.
The Giants fell back to a 7 game deficit in the NL West as the D'Backs topped the Rockies 5-3.
After an off day tomorrow, the Giants return home to face the Dodgers in a weekend series with Tim Lincecum pitching the first game Friday night.
BTW, it's time to DFA Orlando Cabrera. He ain't helping the Giants win now and he ain't gonna be around next year, at least I hope not! OK, use his spot for Marc Kroon, anybody, don't care, doesn't matter. It's just time to for OCab to be moving on.

replayed pill's at bats on gameday...he is seeing the ball well an laying off the junk
ReplyDeleteof course, if given time, the league will get a better book on him, but right now, they havent found his holes, so he has gotta play
bochy got outmanaged today...that doesnt happen often
fact...on a team with even an avg offense, cain has 20 wins and they are talking cy young votes
so if you are cain...when your fa comes around...do you even bother talking to the giants? dont think so
cabrera for neal was a wasted trade...neal tweeted that he has gone back to his og stance and was popping the ball out of the yard in bp....somebody seemingly told him that his og stance would never work in the majors (it wasnt bam bam...i asked)
Everybody in baseball knows Cain's value. Giants won't let him go without a very nice offer. I'm not saying he'd mind different surroundings with better run support, but there's no reason why the Giants can't get some bats in place by his FA 2013 season. Cain has to be the top signing priority the Giants.
ReplyDeleteI've kinda been trying to cut Cabrera some slack, but, yeah, that drop today really is about it. Giants aren't going to miss him. Too bad about Neal. His potential success in Cleveland would be a little bittersweet.
Giants didn't get the breaks today. Pill gunned down at the plate. Pads pitchout to catch Ford. Just works out that way sometimes. I really thought this game was winable.
i posted before i read your last paragraph...never seen you angry...definitely not angry enough to call for a vet to be dfa and then call up someone you dont believe deserves the call (that pop up was pathetic though...shades of durham)
ReplyDeletedo yourself a favor...dont read or listen to bochy's comments about playing ocab
the season is a grind for the players...its a grind for the managers and coaches too (who probably get less sleep than the players)
i think bochy is wasted...lots of stuff great about pill...speed isnt one of his strengths...no reason that he isnt lifted for a pinch runner when he gets the hit...and definitely not when he hits 3rd....that fly ball scores ford or manny.
the pitch out was boch getting outmanaged
cannot expect your players to have a stretch run mindset, when you dont
Hey Doc, Bowker has a chance to end up with a second world series ring as he pinch it for the Phillies this september ... Not bad if you ask me ;-)
ReplyDeleteGIP
The problem with OCab right now, and I admit this is a problem for Bochy, is he's taking away valuable learning opportunities from Brandon Crawford.
ReplyDeleteI would feel very confortable with giving Cain a Jerod Weaver like contract. 5 years and 85 mil sound good to you guys?
ReplyDeleteAnon,
ReplyDelete5 years $85 M for Cainer? Yup, do it in a heartbeat!
Cain is a 200 inning a year, quality start machine. He's like the terminator. He's the sort of rock to build a rotation around, and he's just turning 27 this year. If he holds up he could be a bert blyleven like hall of famer. He'd be worth $20mil/yr if that's what it takes to keep him. I pray that he's a giant for life
