Logan Webb did not allow a hit until one out into the 5'th inning(his last batter of the game) and the Giants cruised to their third win in a row in Coors Field guaranteeing a winning 4-game series.
Lamonte Wade Jr 1B- 2 for 3, 2B. BA= .201. Wade Jr reached base 6 times out of 11 PA's over his last 3 games. He is arbitation eligible this offseason. Does FZ tender him a contract?
Wilmer Flores 2B/1B- 3 for 4, BB. BA= .237. Wilmer was probably the hitting hero of the game reaching base 4 times. He's locked in for 2 more seasons plus an option year.
Brandon Crawford SS 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .228. Controlling owner Greg Johnson said the Giants are well aware of the shortstops on the free agent market as well as a certain power hitting outfielder. Hmmm......
Logan Webb RHP- 5.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 7/2. ERA= 2.93. The only other baserunner Webb allowed was a HBP to C.J. Cron. Giants are not wanting to stress Webb's arm as the season winds down. Gabe Kapler nearly sprinted out to the mound after he gave up the hit to take him out of the game. Good move! The Giants need Webb fully healthy next season.

Churn Watch:
Jharel Cotton RHP was activated and Jason Vosler IF was recalled from AAA Sacramento. Sean Hjelle RHP was optioned back to AAA Sacramento while Lewis Brinson OF was DFA. Nice knowing you, Lew. Those 3 HR's in your first two games had us excited there.

The Giants announced that Buster Posey is now a member of the ownership group and will sit on the board. If you think this is a token gesture to a former star player, you might want to contemplate that between Buster's salary over the last 10 years and his investment in Under Armour, he is probably close to billionaire status, if he isn't already.

The Giants try for a 4-game swweeeep tomorrow afternoon with TBD facing Jose Urena RHP.
As a big Buster Posey fan, it's great news that he is part of the ownership group. The Giants organization will be stronger because of it. It's been a pleasant surprise to hear FZ and the ownership group say openly how aggressive they'll be in the upcoming free agent market. Don't remember that ever happening.during any regime . They should be able to sign at least 2 star players. I'd like Judge and Trea Turner. I'd be surprised if the Yankees let Judge go, but you never know.
ReplyDelete2023 Committed Dollars: NY $123.5M, SF $88.5.
ReplyDeleteJudge will have a difficult choice unless he makes it just for the money, someone will bid more.
Career home or Home home?
Although SF & CA has high taxes, NYC + NY is comparable so that might not be a factor as was reported for Harper.
How high should the Giants go? How about:
$440 million over 15 years ($40m/year for 7 years, $20M/yr for 8 years).
The $20M/year owed after he's "through" won't impact them so much because the "cap" will absorb it, and he could be the greatest Giant of all time! Haha: Judge, Mays, Bonds, Mathewson, Ott, Hubbell, Marichal, McCovey, Posey?
Include an opt out for him every year after 3 years in the event that inflation makes the dollar irrelevant.
Small note that Posey's investment was in BodyArmor sports drink.
ReplyDeleteUnder Armour, Body Armor, some kind of armor.
