Evan Gates is interesting. Undrafted, he was pitching for a third year in a summer league with the Traverse City Pit Spitters in Northern Michigan and was signed last year by SF and sent to pitch for the Giants Black. He had someone's eye because his record at quite low levels has been middling. Until this year as he has rocketed through all levels to shine in 4 appearances in AA.
ReplyDeleteFrom being 2.4 years over the age average in the ACL last year to being a half-year under the average in AA at 24, he IS on a fast track!
Thanks for the correction on Gates. I seemed to remember him being a late round draftee. That's what I get for not looking it up before writing the comment. But yeah, apparently someone saw something and made an adjustment. He's pitched well at 3 levels this season.
