Game Wrap 4/27/2019: Yankees 6 Giants 4

The Giants followed a familiar script to defeat as they fell behind early and the comeback was too little, too late.  Key Lines:

Tyler Austin LF- 1 for 4.  BA= .280.  Austin gets his first start in LF which is a step in the right direction.  So far he's hit for a good average and an ability to take a walk but just 1 XBH(a double) out of 7 hits in a very SSS.

Yangervis Solarte 2B- 2 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .235.   Solarte's 3-run shot finally got the Giants on the board in the 9'th inning, but they still had a 3-run deficit. Solarte has started the last 2 games against LHP's.  The HR came against RHP Luis Cessa.  Should he just be the starter?

Eric Kratz PH- 1 for 1, HR(1).  BA= .167.  Kratz runs into one once in awhile.

Derek Holland LHP- 5 IP, 6 H, 3 BB, 6 K.  ERA= 5.34.  Holland was a gamer until Gary Sanchez unloaded the longest grand slam HR of the Statcast era(467 ft) in the 5'th inning.

Trevor Gott RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 1.80.  Gott has been a nice pick up eating innings in relief.

Travis Bergen LHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 5.40.  Bergen has been effective in spots but is mostly a mop-up option right now.

The Loss leaves the Giants 5.5 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West pending the outcome of the LA/Pittsburgh game in progress.  The Giants sit 5 games behind in the Wild Card race.

Dereck Rodriguez tries to stave off a sweep tomorrow against RHP Domingo German.

  1. Don't understand why its taking so long to move the bullpen mounds off the field before another outfielder gets seriously hurt. Mac's career was altered because of this and thankfully Duggar seems to be ok. Bochy took the blame for leaving Holland in too long to pitch to Sanchez in the 5th. His grand salami was a moonshot, wow..

  2. Mac today. 3/4 with a solo HR. Perhaps time? Not sure I trust Solarte, yet. Panik is just one start removed from a homerun and a double performance.

    1. Yeah, just saw the highlight of Mac's dinger.. its hard to get too excited about PCL stats, but if Mac has regained his power stroke, they owe it to themselves to give him 1 last shot. If he fails, then try to make a good trade for outfield help.

    2. But with few exceptions, to bring up Mac, you'll lose whoever goes off the active roster
