Down on the Farm: 4/24/2019

AAA  Sacramento River Cats topped the Tacoma Rainiers 4-1:

Mac Williamson DH-1 for 4, HR(2).  BA= .327.
Austin Slater 2B- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(1), SB(2).  BA= .313.
Breyvic Valera SS/2B- 2 for 4.  BA= .271.
Ty Blach LHP- 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K's, GO/AO= 9/1.  ERA= 4.34.

Some familiar names here.  I hear the Giants could use a good RH hitting LF.

AA  Reading Fightin' Phils pounded the Richmond Flying Squirrels 7-2:

Conner Menez LHP- 6 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 9 K's, GO/AO= 5/1.   ERA= 1.31.

Menez has 28 K's and 6 BB's in 20.2 IP on the season.

Kyle McPherson 2B- 1 for 4, 2 BB, SB(1).  BA= .286.
Heliot Ramos CF- 1 for 2, 2B, SF, HBP.  BA= .270.

Raffi Vizcaino RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 2.25.

Giants scored the last 4 runs of the game, but came up just short. Per SJ website, Heliot Ramos was lifted for a PR after his double with an apparent leg injury.  Ugh!

  1. Mac, Gerber and Slater have seem to risen to the top down in SAC and Mac's 3 HRs in the last 4 games is a really good sign..But...is there any place for one of them right now? The only option would be dealing/cutting Parra and I don't see that happening right now.....Might have to take an injury where the Giants have been pretty lucky so far this year

even in the losses, some good things from Ramos (please be nothing big), Vizcaino, Matheny, Rincones (another Panda?) and, as always, Frankie Tostado!

  2. If the starting pitching holds (healthy), Giants gotta maximize any incremental offensive upgrade. I'd like to see them trade Sam Dyson to a bullpen starving team like Washington, go with a 7-man bullpen, which might actually help the team by relying more on the strength of each bullpen arm. Then DFA Kratz, go with a 5 man bench by bringing up Vogt and Mac and then do some heavy platooning. Maybe even trade for a RH middle infielder with some pop like Starlin Castro to platoon with Crawford and Panik and the lineup might be able to keep close to the wildcard. If they're close, at the trade deadline they can try to trade for offensive upgrades, someone like Nick Castellanos or longer term pieces.

    CF (Duggar/Pillar)
    RF (Parra/Mac)
    LF Belt
    1B (Pablo/Austin)
    2B Panik (Castro)
    SS Crawford (Castro)
    3B Longoria (Pablo)
    C Buster (Vogt)
