Down on the Farm: 4/12/2019

AAA  Sacramento River Cats tamed the Salt Lake City Bees 4-2:

Mike Gerber DH- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .407.
Donovan Solano 2B- 2 for 5.  BA= .348.
Mac Williamson RF- 2 for 5.  BA= .238.
Mike Yastrzemski LF- 1 for 2, HR, 2 BB.  BA= .333.
Ty Blach LHP- 5 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 4.00.
Sam Coonrod RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(1).  ERA= 0.00.

Mike Gerber has raked all spring.  If the Giants are in a rebuild, it seems like we should see Gerber in Gerardo Parra's role in SF at some point.  Maybe part of Z's grand plan is to flip Parra for a low level prospect before promoting Gerber?  Mac didn't hit a dinger.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels vs Reading Fightin' Phils postponed due to rain.

A+  Visalia Rawhide whipped the San Jose Giants 6-2:

Heliot Ramos CF- 0 for 2, 2 BB's.  BA= .214.
Joey Bart C- 0 for 4.  BA= .281.
Garrett Cave RHP- 4.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.24.
Camilo Doval RHP- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 17.18.

Ramos is taking a lot of walks so far.  I think that is a good thing. Bart has had several multi-hit games and several 0'fers.

A  Augusta Greenjackets shut down the West Virginia Power 9-3:

Ismael Munguia LF/CF- 3 for 5, 2B, BB.  BA= .208.
Jose Layer CF- 1 for 3, SB(2).  BA= .286.
Frankie Tostado 1B- 2 for 4, HR(2), 2 BB.  BA= .357.
Wander Franco 2B- 1 for 2, 3 BB.  BA= .125.
Jake Wong RHP- 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 6.35.

Jose Layer came out of the game after stealing 2B in the 4'th inning.  Hopefully not a serious injury.  Frankie Tostado is raking!  Decent start for Jake Wong.

  1. Super SSS: in 31 total ABs, Shaw and Williamson have ZERO XBHs.
Maybe Farhan was right about both.
Is Mac not seeing the ball? 8 Ks in 21 ABs.
Shaw has 2 Ks and 3 Ws on 10 ABs (13 PAs?)

  2. Was gonna mention the same thing about Mac...seems like he has totally lost his power stroke for whatever reason (confidence, not seeing the ball well, pressing, ???)..I want to see him do well for the Giants organization but he just may need a change of scenery.

One guy that is really intriguing me is Coonrod..Byt all accounts he is throwing the ball faster then ever since coming back from TJ and, Like ADON, may have found a home as a reliever.

  3. Big Mac is having a hard time even getting the ball to be pop up outs or fly outs. Something is not right with him, he look lost, feel for him!!!

  4. Joey bart look like a man child. He looks so comfortable with a sense of knowing what pitches he can get too. The contact are hard every time when he come to bats despite the o-fer..

  5. We live in a world of i.g. not Instagram but instant gratification. Minor league baseball is for development and Heliot Ramos is taking more pitchs on every at bats is encouraging. His tools is there, is about getting pitchs to hit. If he can get his pitch the numbers will jump. Now just be patience with him, he is improving with his bb/k ratio.
