Game Wrap 4/23/2019: Giants 7 Blue Jays 6

The Giants broke out the long ball with 4 solo shots and the Giants held off a late charge by the Blue Jays for a much needed win on the road.  Key Lines:

Brandon Belt 1B- 1 for 4, HR(5).  BA= .215.  Belt's Blast hit off the advertising screen on the facing of the 3'rd deck leaving part of it broken. He's not hitting for average so far but is on a pace for 30 dingers.  Now he just needs to stay healthy!

Evan Longoria 3B- 1 for 4, HR(3).  BA= .221.  Longo's Long Ball landed up on the Batter's Eye screen in straightaway CF.

Pablo Sandoval DH- 3 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .344.  Sandoval is the only member of the starting lineup with a BA over .229 on the season.  Can he play 2B?  LF?  Or, maybe if Belt is going to slider over to LF for Tyler Austin, why not put Pabs at 1B instead?

Joe Panik 2B- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(1).  BA= .197.  Great to see Panik not only get 2 hits but both of them are for extra bases.  Maybe this is his slump-buster game?

Jeff Samardzija RHP- 5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.00.  Rogers Center has been historically tough on Giants pitchers but Shark stepped up and put the Giants in position to win.

Sam Dyson RHP- 1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 4.38.  Dyson pitched a clean 7'th inning but then got into trouble in the 8'th, loading up the bases with no outs.  Tony Watson got one out, but then gave up a grand slam HR to Rowdy Tellez to get the BJ's within 1.

Will Smith LHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(6).  ERA= 1.04.  Smith's trade value keeps rising....or maybe the Giants go on a tear and keep him for the stretch run?  California Dreaming!

The Giants remain in last place in the NL West but the Win enables them to close to 4.5 games behind the Dodgers and just 3 games off the Wild Card pace.

Drew Pomeranz tries to send the Giants home with a 2-game sweep of the Blue Jays and a .500 record on the 8 game road trip tomorrow facing Clay Buchholz.

  1. OK, am I the only one who was "Whaa? Wow!" at all the standing ovations the Toronto crowd gave Pillar? I mean, the guy was popular, but who knew that he would be greeted as a returning hero? That was an unexpected level of enthusiasm.
Maybe he's better than I thought...

    1. Pillar must be a stand-up guy - that was a cool tribute by Toronto fans - this is one acquisition I applaud

  2. Giants being very consistent by not scoring in the first inning for the 24th straight game.
Is there something wrong with the lineup? This is far beyond co-incidence.
Boch, some advice: make out your 1st 8, then move 1-3 to 6-8.
