Ryan Kirby 1B- 1 for 3, HR(13), BB. BA= .226.
Orlando Garcia 2B- 2 for 4. BA= .245.
It's getting down to the end of the season and Heliot Ramos is still kicking it in an environment that has broken a few pretty good prospects.

Short Season
David Villar 3B- 2 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .284.
Dalton Combs RF- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .283.
Seth Corry LHP- 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 8/2. ERA= 0.61.
Seth Corry had a 2.61 ERA in 38 IP with 42 K and 17 BB for the AZL Giants Black. He has allowed just 1 ER in 14.2 IP with 13 K's and 7 BB's in 3 Starts since his promotion to S-K. The major difference seems to be a GO/AO= 1.09 for Giants Black and 1.82 for S-K. Has he added a sinker to his repertoire or is it a sample size aberration? At any rate, he's had a fine season and seems to have left the bouts of extreme wildness behind. Can't wait to see what he does in Augusta next season.

Rookie AZL Giants Orange and Giants Black were both idle.

With SF sorely in need of young talent to augment their aging graybeards, the farm teams are not particularly well-stocked, based on their 2018 records: Sacramento 50-75, Richmond 58-94, San Jose 53-72, Augusta 21-31 (2nd half), and S-K 31-30 (3-7 last 10). The nearest-to-the-majors River Cats have been decimated by the Giants' needs to augment failures of the veterans. Help-is-not-on-the-way, at least in the next couple years.
ReplyDeleteThe last drafts have been good, including this year's international haul, and that will help eventually but not soon enough.
With nearly $110 million tied up in just 7 players through 2020 and an estimated payroll of $209 million in 2021 (Baseball-Reference contracts), signing short-term high priced Free Agent talent is severely limited, and probably won't help anyway, the needs are too great.
If the Giants can shed any over-30 "talent" even if the return is not great the payroll relief might hasten the return to a contending team.
