  1. Did Ryder Jones' "rough" first taste (2 HRs, 150 ABs .173/.244/.273) of the bigs last year at just turned 23 yo lessen his chances of coming up this year?
Or is .282 @ Sac hurting him?
Or is it just numbers: Panik, Hanson, d'Arnaud, & Tomlinson?
Does everyone on the 40-man come up in September?

    1. I'm more concerned about Shaw. He's only hitting .263 in the PCL. We really need him to recapture his 2017 form because the 2019 pre-hot-stove OF cupboard on the Giants is mighty thin.

I'm happy with Duggar, Slater and WIlliamson to start the season. But the bench would then be non-existent as Pence, McCutchen & Hernandez are all hitting the road after this year. Two of whom I will be more than happy to see the backside of with the third (Pence) more like the bitter-sweet parting of Cain & Lincecum... And I'd rather not go back right into Luxury Tax issues to sign some massively over-valued FA or try to plug holes with no-upside/on-the-downside players.

Just be smart for a few years and deal with all the issues in a rational, rather than bandaid, fashion as you get the bullpen fixed, build some OF depth, figure out 2B & 3B and clean up the rotation.

    2. If Hanson is for real, LF is probably where his D will hurt the least, but that makes 3 LFers doesn't it: Williamson, Shaw, and Hanson. Hanson's the only one with enough speed to play RF -- his arm is probably good enough.
Really need to let Williamson and Shaw audition for LF, at least in the Spring, but couldn't Shaw come up now -- will his playing and hitting (or not) hurt so very much -- how bad can he make a .500 team?
The next 2 weeks is the last chance for the Giants to get anything -- anything at all -- for McCutchen. Doesn't someone need him more than the Giants?

    3. Would guess that Tomlinson comes up in September. He’s hitting nearly .300 and is currently on a 16 game hitting streak.

  2. He was already up this year. Hit a homerun. Was sent down the next day. Was when Belt had paternity leave over the ASB.

    1. That's what is called a cup of coffee.
Other than Hanson, regular infield players not named Brandon have been pretty mediocre.
      (No slight intended for Posey.)
