It was a harmonic convergence of bad karma for the Giants in game 1 of their 3 game series with the Reds: 1. They were coming off an exhilarating 3-1 series win over the defending NL Champions. 2. Great American Ballpark has historically given them fits. 3. Tim Lincecum struggles in muggy weather. 4. The Reds pitcher has great stuff but has started the year a bit off. You always worry about those. At any rate, Timmy coughed up a 1 run lead provided by Hunter Pence on his first inning HR, giving up a 4 spot in the bottom of the first inning then gave up 4 more in the 5'th and that is about all she wrote. Key Lines:
Hunter Pence- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(8). BA= .293. Pence didn't seem to have any trouble with Homer Bailey. Everybody else did, though!
Tim Lincecum- 4.1 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 3 BB, 3 K. ERA= 5.01. Look, if Timmy allows Billy Hamilton to reach base, any base, he's probably better off to just concede 3B to him rather than expend energy and risk throwing errors by trying to prevent it. Timmy conceded after the game that Hamilton was a major distraction. On the other hand, the fact he allowed Hamilton to reach base in the first place is probably a sign that he does not have his best stuff or command.
The good news is the Dodgers are losing to the ChiSox in the 8'th inning(come on 'Sox, let's close it out!) and the Rockies already lost to the D'Backs.
Ryan Vogelsong faces Tony Cingrani in game 2 tomorrow evening.

LAD lost, as did the Rockies, which is the only saving grace today, given the Giants' Keystone Kops performance.
ReplyDeleteGot a bad game out of their system, look for a very strong performance from Voggie tonite with Buster having a big game.
ReplyDeleteRichard in Winnipeg
Furball game.
ReplyDeleteDown 3-4, they had a chance...but cough, cough, cough...gone.
I'm okay with the Reds getting some payback, but let's not overdo it guys.
Voggie pitch tough, today.
