Homer Bailey held the Giants hitless through 6 innings and they ultimately managed just 4 base runners to ruin a strong pitching performance by Tim Hudson. Key Lines:
Tim Hudson- 8 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 2.59. Not much to say about this except it should have been good enough for a Win.
Jeremy Affeldt- 0.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 0 K. ERA= 1.98. It was not a Save situation, but the new closer platoon did not get off to an auspicious start as Affeldt gave up hits to LH batters Joey Votto and Skip Shumaker and hit Jay Bruce with a pitch. Casilla came in and committed an error on a comebacker to put another runner on base, but no further runs scored.
Homer Bailey(Reds)- 9 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 4.39. We all know Bailey is capable of pitching a no-hitter at any time, but his ERA also tells you that he can be hit. He may have been helped by the ump in this one. I did not see the whole game, but at one point Pablo Sandoval was called out on a pitch that was well above the letters.
The Loss completed a humiliating 4 game sweep, and dropped the Giants into a first place tie with the Dodgers in the NL West as the Bad Guys whitewashed the Cardinals 6-0 behind Clayton Kershaw.
The Giants get a day off to try to regroup before starting a 3 game series against those same Cardinals with Tim Lincecum facing another rookie the Giants have not seen before, Marco Gonzalez.

Wow.
ReplyDeleteI sense much of our problem is mental...at least during this rough stretch.
ReplyDeleteOver the whole season, you can argue it's about talent.
Romo's ineffectiveness has been a huge factor. It started out with some unlucky losses and has snowballed from there. Injuries, bad luck and Romo. That's the 3-headed monster right there.
