Game Wrap 6/18/2014: White Sox 7 Giants 6

An expected pitcher's duel between Tim Hudson and Chris Sale failed to materialize as the White Sox jumped out to a 7-2 lead then held on in the late innings for the final score.  Key Lines:

Gregor Blanco- 3 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .263.  Blanco played CF and hit leadoff in Pagan's absence.  Can't ask for much more than this from a leadoff hitter.  Blanco is hitting .314 over his last 10 games and .333 for the month of June after hitting .295 for the month of May, so he has been hot for a long time now.

Pablo Sandoval- 2 for 4, 2B, SF.  BA= .265.  Pabs is hitting .424 over his last 10 games, .316 for the month of June after hitting .318 for the month of May.

Pence, Posey, Adrianza- 2 hits each.  Adrianza is hitting .315 over his last 10 games and can we please get him some more playing time?

Tim Hudson- 4.2 IP, 12 H, 7 R, 1 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 2.39.  US Cellular Field has ownage on Huddy.  His career ERA there is over 9.

The Giants lead over the Dodgers in the NL West is now cut to 4.5 games pending the Dodgers-Rockies game tonight, and you knew they were going to need that cushion.

The Giants have tomorrow off before starting a 3 game series in another bandbox ballpark in Arizona against the D'Backs.

  1. if pagan is out for an extended period of time, dont care what blanco thinks he can do....this team is toast

and pagan went back to az for tests and an epidural....just like scoots....and we know where scoots is right now

    1. We need to re-establish quality and consistent pitching...starters and relievers.

    2. I don't agree on Blanco. I believe he can play CF and lead off with minimal dropoff from Pagan. The difference between last year and this year is Morse in LF.

  2. Everyone got their power team, however solo blasts leave a lot to be desire. Too many soloists and not enough rabbits... The starting pitching is collapsing before our eyes, again... Maybe being away from home cooking; as well as the steakhouses of Chicago, they will find the hot heat of Arizona keeping them in to get some prolonged rest and hopefully self examination. The Giants modus operandi is keeping their fans on the edge of their seats and they do it quite well, as a matter of fact...Guess I will have to change my drawers to break this losing streak...

    1. These two games kind of remind me of last year in Toronto.

  3. And Kershaw pitches an offing perfect game against the Rockies, of all teams! 15 K's makes it one of the most dominant pitching performances of all time. Eff the Dodgers!!

    2. OK not a perfecto as Handy Hanley made an error in the 7'th inning. Still, one of the most dominant pitching performances of all time.

  4. Bums have gone 8-3 while we've gone 3-8. They have a semi-tough 10 games - SD at SD, the Cards for 4 and the hot KC royals. The Giants need to figure out how to beat the Snakes - and yes, we have Timmy leading off which is a complete wildcard, plus the inevitable Goldschmidt HR. Giants get AZ, SD and Cincy. The sting of losing to the Rockies compounds when the Bums handle them easily. Rough stretch indeed!

I'd say the two de-facto Captains Posey and Cain need to step up in this stretch and perform. Its gonna be a long summer. Now that the hype has died down, we can get back to being underdogs.
